I had my surgery last year, April 2012 at 56 years old. Best thing I ever did for myself. It works for the young, and it works for the old. Let me know if you have specific concerns.

Hi, I'm 59 and had the sleeve on December 3, 2012. So really I'm new at this myself. But I have to say it is the very best thing I've done. I feel and have felt wonderful....no issues post-op - lucky girl. I like to think that my experience is the same for the majority of folks. I left the hospital completely off all of my Diabetes medications, my high blood pressure medication from 2 pills per day to only 1/2 of one of the pills. From the start when I began the journey (information session in August 2012) to today, I have lost 40 lbs. I've always been a 'rule-follower' all of my life, so following the 'rules' and plan of my medical team is good for me. I'm happy to be an ear, a friend, a cheerleader for you. You will do great!! I just know it.

Not quite yet but nearly 50 by a few months and have my real concerns at my age that led me to this. I had surgery and now down one class in BMI scale obesity levels having been an extra large man, I look forward to aging with out hypertension and added effects as well as lowering blood preasure with out pills, no cholestral pills, less and no pain in joints and pain killers, plus better heart condition in time as well as ridding mysellf of use of a cpap machine I use as I sleep.

Not the vanity with me but health along with all, my Mom's had an extra large daily pill planner that was a pain in the a** as I saw it. I want to be thinner and age the right way past 60 with better and good health as best as can be, but you'll look at your best sooner than you think, fit your size when its all new, gain adjility, staimina, a well feeling.

Look and feel better all around, I am down 50+pounds in a month and 1/2 time as a start and 40 more in the past year prior to surgery, total over 90+ pds since dec. 2011, surgery date was early Dec. 2012.

I was sleeved on 12/17 at the ripe age of 67. I feel great now and am looking forward to living life with a lot less weight. Even though I have lost 44 pounds since I started my pre-op diet I can already tell as I can walk the bigbox stores without getting short of breath. And I have already gone down a size. I wish I had done this sooner but I guess now is better than never.

Hang in there Betty, Katie and Oliver's Mom. Together we can do it. Is there a group for the 50+ sleevers?

Thanks everyone! I'll be 65 in March. I just want to be healthy and get off my meds. I like to look at the positive side of things and I get all that from you all! Thanks again. We must start an over 55 group! Sounds great!

There are aged based groups on the forums, but seems not much happening over there!

I am 50 and will be sleeved in a few weeks. Wish I'd done it ages ago! Wanna be diabetes free! I am on 6 meds just for diabetes! Dang, that's ridiculous!

Good luck!! I'm wanting off all meds too. I'm scheduled for 2/12. Just waiting on the letter from my insurance. Fingers crossed it gets here this week so we don't have to reschedule.

Me too Betty! I started this process in April! It's a long one and gives you plenty of time to back out! I would be over the moon to lose 100lbs! I've been over weight since my teens!

Hi Gina...I'm 57 and I had surgery in April of last year. I have never felt better! I have so much energy and strength I haven't had in decades. My surgery went like clockwork, no complications at all and I am not stressing over what to eat, I eat a fairly normal diet now (somewhat lower in carbs) but just small portions. Lovin my sleeve and hope to make goal this year!!

I'm 56 and was 54 when I had surgery. No complications and got to goal in 9 months. Been maintaining almost a full year now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
