New sleeve but iit doesnt feel restricted

Should I be able to drink 4oz of Soup and feel satufied and not overly full? It seems like I am able to eat more than others my same timeline (week and a half out). I can drink lots of Water without any bad feeling. I sip and not gulp but I can do sip after sip. Anyone have initial confusion with what the feeling was asking (hunger, full or thirsty)? I worry I am able to drink too much:0/ I just ate a cup of egg drop soup with no problem.

You know I thought I was the ONLY ONE with this confusion????. I can drink and drink, I had a couple of spoons cottage cheese today and I was finally felt satisfied. I am on day 11 postop. My dr said use Protein Shakes as a meal but that didn't work for me. So I feel you.

That feeling will go away when you can actually eat solid food. You will feel much more restricted, so don't overdo it cause you don't want to get sick.

I am 6 weeks out now and I can drink 6-8 oz of shakes, and I can eat about 6 oz of food. I can drink (sip) a pretty good amount too. I have been told by others on here that its too much......I just know how it feels. I do know when I eat to much though. Seems to be a fine line.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. It means you're healing nicely. There is very little inflammation, unlike some people who deal with inflammation for weeks. I was drinking 8 oz Protein shakes the first week with no problem. It hasn't hurt my weight loss any. The most important thing for me was just to be diligent about measuring my portions and stoping with that. I don't try to eat till I'm full ever. And I don't rely on my feelings of satiety to tell me when to stop eating because frankly I don't trust them. I eat my measured portions and stop. The nice part is I've realized that if I do that, I will be satisfied...it just might take a while to realize it. But I will not still be hungry, and thats my goal...to stop eating when I'm no longer hungry, which is a hard thing to recognize without the help of measured portions.

I think this issue is just like the rate of weight loss issue....you shouldn't compare yourself with others because the differences are just too varied.

I bought some 4 oz and 8 oz containers for just that reason. It makes it easier for me. Being overfull is VERY uncomfortable. I made that mistake a few times and after reading on here, I saw that suggestion. It helps me.

The good news is, in time you'll be able to measure with your eyes much more accurately, and you won't need the scale all the time. I still use my scale and/or a measuring cup almost everyday, but most of the time it's merely as a back up so I don't slip into any bad habits of putting too much food on my plate and then forcing myself to finish them. The urge to clean my plate has always been strong with me.....thanks Mom and Dad.

I have a problem w/ portions also. I'm almost 3 weeks out and have been able to tolerate all foods. I want to feel more restriction but I really don't, Today for lunch i ate an order of refried Beans (Taco Bell) and the meat and cheese from a soft taco with no problem. I ate slow and finished about 95%. I also had a Protein Shake for Breakfast and a cheeseburger patty for dinner. What gives?

As you transition to solids you will feel the restriction, no doubt. For most people 6-8 oz is about the most one can tolerate at a sitting. If you eat too much you'll know it. Don't get discouraged, you're lucky to be able to tolerate what you can, you healed well! I was also lucky like that from the day after surgery I had no problem getting my fluids in and I logged everything and follwed my eating plan. At 9 months out I can eat almost anything in very small portions. I love my sleeve!!

I'm 8 days out and yesterday I noticed how much 'more' I was able to get in. (Water) once I ate a couple of bites of puréed, though, my 1/2 of a boiled egg did me in. :) I kept thinking "did I stretch it?" Or "good gosh, I've sprung a leak!"

Good to know I'm just healing nicely, swelling is going down inside there.

Since yesterday, I have begun burping a little more, though. Lol. It cracks me up because I've never been a 'gassy' person.

I too needed that information and advice! I already have the 4/6/8 oz containers from tupperware. They'll work great for Portion Control.

I have this feeling all the time. In my 80 days of post op, I have not not-tolerated any thing at all. Lots of liquids I can take. It is only with solids that I feel full some times.

Butterthebean gave the best advice. This is what i do and have been doing my entire pregnancy to keep my weight in check.

Measure proper portions and don't go back for more if you're not stuffed. You get used to not eating as much.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
