Not sure what the door comment means. I understand why people in America fear plane rides I would agree that's a better reason for writing these letters than the surgery is. But that just backs me up.

I was really excited to read this thread but what a disappointment. :-( Can't we all just get along?

I have a 4 yr old and almost 2 yr old And have been wondering what to tell the 4 yr old- since she will notice my absence the most when I'm in the hospital. Going into details about the surgery and why is way too complicated for their little minds to understand. Not sure what to tell them.

Same here. I was excited to get some ideas on what to tell my nearly 3 year old, or if she should see me in the hospital post-op. I know I would want her, but worry that she might get really scared seeing mommy laying there with all the machines around her and on her.

I thought iggy had a good idea. With my daughter being so young, if something did happen, how much would she remember of me when she's older? At least she would have a heartfelt letter to hold onto.

My sons are 3 and 8 months, I won't even say anything until the day of. All I'll tell them is I love them, I'll see them later, and be good for daddy! Lol

My son is 5 (6 in march) quite the blabber mouth, i love his dearly he's just like me lol. I don't want my a*****e exhusband to ever know I had the surgery so I told him & my son that I was having my gallbladder removed. So far so good, that was dec 10th

My kids are 9& 6. I was upfront and honest with them from the moment that I decided to have this surgery (as Dean said in an age appropriate way). We discussed ahead of time why I was doing this and what would happen afterwards and the effects it would have on us as a family. I tell my children everyday how much I love them so the day of surgery was no different for us. Part of my reasoning for talking with them through this whole process was that I wanted them to be able to ask as many questions and feel as comfortable as they could with my decision. All of our children are different and we all have different relationships. However, I think it is safe to say that we all love and adore our children and shouldn't insult oneanother with thoughts that because we deal differently with our families that one parent loves theirs kids more than another.

Aussie. I'm sorry if my life bothers you. Yes I have had tragedy in my life. My aunt died suddenly. It shaped me. My baby was born very ill. It shaped me. I have a dear friend who is dying. That shapes me. I like many others have grown from tragedy and it changes how I approach things. This is fairly normal. I shared how these experiences changed me because of your initial negative post so that you could understand my thought process.

FYI my life is very full. I live it to the fullest. This tends to mean that I experience things. Many things you couldn't possibly understand as I likely couldn't relate to your world I believe. This does not mean that I would belittle your world though.

I agree. I made video msgs too. I didn't tell anyone but my hubby I was going ( my children are young), so I felt I owed an explanation to my loved ones jut in case. Luckily I never had to use them.
