UHC & Weight History!

Recommended Posts

With my United Health Care Plan, they require 2-3 years weight history. My weight has been up & down through the years. 2010, my BMI was over 40. In 2011 & 2012, it was JUST UNDER 40 (39.8 & 38). I have no co-morbidities.

My surgery coordinator says I need to find some professionally recorded weight for 11' & 12' or they wont cover. I havent been to the dr other than the ones I gave them, which were under 40. WHAT CAN I DO! I would hate for something so dumb & so close to qualifying prevent me from getting surgery. Is there ANY way I can get around this? Or is it pretty much hopeless?

Do you think that since 3 years ago, I was over a BMI of 40 I could get away with it since it shows Ive been "morbidly obese" & struggling?

DOES ANYONE KNOW????

I have UHC also. My policy requires 5 years of weight history. I didn't hit 40 bmi until 2012. I have all the years recorded with my pcp. The lowest I have is 36.1. The nurse practicioner in my surgeons office said she did not see a problem with approval. The insurance company wants to make sure that you have had a weight problem for a while and that you didn't weight 150 pounds a couple of years ago and gained a bunch recently. But, you need someone to fight for you at the surgeon's office. You may be denied at first, but they need to fight for you. If nothing else the surgeon needs to write a letter on your behalf. Hang in there. Keep fighting for yourself. Let me know how it turns out.

I think it shows you need the surgery more, you OBVIOUSLY tried to lose weight and got no where since you are back up to 40. I think you should try see how it goes then move from there.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
