Can you have lapband removed and the sleeve completed in one operation

Recommended Posts

Hi.. I am seriously thinking about having my lapband removed and have the sleeve done. Can this be done in one operation. If you have had this done, can you please share your experience. Not sure if I should have it done in one or two operations. What are the pros and cons. Thanks....

Oh yeah, the doctors will tell you that if they see erosion or any major problems, they will remove the band and you will have to undergo a second procedure for the sleeve, but it can be done..

I praise God mine was done in 1 procedure, it took him 3 hours, due to scar tissue, but he was able to do it...

October 24, I had the band removed and the sleeve done. The surgery went very well. The only problem I had was the pain from the removal of the band. I had so much scar tissue around the band. It was the most painful thing I ever experienced!! But after a couple doses of pain meds, I was fine! I was up walking around later that night! I would definitely do it again! I'm down 49 lbs. Good luck to you!! Best decision I made to have the band removed!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
