Hello.

I am researching the lap band procedure, and found this group.

I live in London Ontario.

I have been looking for the cost of the surgery..found websites about the surgery but they never mention the cost..

Any ideas??

Sue

You don't need to save, you can finance!! I figured the money I will save from eating less will pay for the surgery.

Hi Strictlyred,

I grew up in Woodstock and still have a rental property in Lodon (although I live in the Arctic). I go home every summer!

I had my surgery in Montreal and it cost $17,000. My insurance company paid $3500 for the cost of the band (deemed a medical device... but I think I was lucky). There are many medical financing companies that will lend the money for the surgery - if you go on some of the sites like TLBC in Toronto, I think they have links to it. The rates are high, but worth it I think. I choose to get a line of credit for half of it (lower interest) and paid the rest (there go my savings!!)

I wish you the best of luck!!!!

Hi and welcome.

The cost in Canada will range anywhere from $13,000 - $18,000. But, be wary.....some don't include the cost of the "lifetime fills" while others do....so be sure to investigate thoroughly.

Yes, medical finance companies will always be happy to lend you the moola....that's how they make THEIR moola! And, yes, TLBC has a medical finance co. right in the clinic (downstairs).

Line of credit is a much better idea (lower interest rate etc).

Good luck in your search and research....we're here to help if you have any questions. I also highly recommend the "search" function on this lapband site.....it is very helpful in answering your queries and sending you to links wherein all the info has already been posted.

$15,000.00 Dr. Cobourn-Mississauga. Now I think it is $16,000.00, but is lifetime fills. Good Luck and come see us anytime!:)

Like Lila, I got my band done at the Toronto Lap Band Centre (TLBC). $16000 covers the surgery and life-long aftercare, all fills. A line of credit or renegotiating your mortgage would probably the cheapest way to finance the operation.

Hi Strictlyred,

I've opted to get my surgery done in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz. The cost is $8500 U.S. includes surgery, hotel, care, etc. Flight is extra. But if you decided to get the surgery done outside of Canada, be sure to research the surgeon well...

as well as the nature of your aftercare....many docs won't do the fills for you etc if you had it outside the country.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
