Hello, I'm new to this forum, I had my sleeve on 22/10/2012 and had a diet program for four weeks, now I'm so lost and don't know what to eat and what not to, started eating raw vegetables two weeks ago..

Can anyone help me with a diet program?

Can anyone tell me when should I stop the Protein Shakes?

Is one Centrum pill daily enough?

Thank you all

First thing, congrats on your weight loss! You should have had a meal program given to you when you went thru the process of getting the surgery scheduled, I am 11 months out and still have Protein Shakes and bars. Everyone is different as to what they can handle. I was one of the lucky ones, I was eating regular foods quickly, albeit small amounts. I would call your doc and have them send you the info again, I used that as a base and added/subtracted foods I liked and tolerated. Good luck to you!

Thank you :)

I read online that we lose weight in the first 6 months then the it stabilizes or goes down really slow, how is it after 11 months? Satisfied?

I've attached a copy of Stage 6 - 7 that was given to me by my nutritionist. Your NUT might have their own set of rules that differ from these.

Good luck !

Where did you have your surgery? Do you not have post-op checkups? Were you not given any information before or after surgery?

Not being a smarty, I just really am wondering? I had frequent check ups and still do. I was given a huge manual with all the information I could ever think of. I was given a diet plan for way farther out than 4 weeks. And I definitely had to take more than one multi-Vitamin pill - I had to take a ton of other supplements in addition to a Multi-Vitamin.< /p>

In absence of any medical guidance since surgery, and since you would be about 2.5 months out, I would suggest continuing the Protein shakes. At that point in time, I was eating pimento cheese, tuna salad, crackers, Wendy's chili, and believe it or not, nuts. Also, cheese, cooked hamburger patties with cheese, cottage cheese with salsa, lunch meat by itself. I know this because I logged my food in great detail.

And if any foods cause pain or discomfort, stop eating them for a week or so then try again.

I'm 10 months out, at goal, and I still drink Protein drinks.

Welcome to the board, the more the merrier :)

congrats on your weight loss

glad you got info/food info for the first month

I could be mistaken its sound like you don't have a NUT???

the link/ manuel that JerseyGirl you too will be extremely helpful

can you find a support group around you?? people that have had WLS

it doesn't have to be the sleeve, someone that had surgery and knows the eating and drinking process - it could be helpful to meeting/speaking to others like you

do you know the Water rules?

don't drink for 30 minutes before you eat - do not drink with meals, do not drink after you eat for at least 45 minutes

drink at least 64 oz of Water daily

chew thorougly, slowly

these are the most basic rules, if you have a NUT listen to her specific directions

where were you sleeved??? Mexico?? where do you live?? curious :o

i hope you do have a NUT - or get some more info

now that you have some guidelines from the manuel, read, absorb, and come back for anymore questions. we aim to please :)

take care and good luck

I have post operative check ups, once a month, the Dr told me to eat whatever I CAN eat and to go slow..

I told him about the Centrum pills, if one pill is enough, his answer was yes it's enough, but when I checked online I found out that I should take lots of other medicaments..

And he didn't mention the protein, I started taking it on my own cuz it's written online..

Now I'm so confused, worried and don't know what to eat..

I think I should be taking extra Vit.B12 and Vit.C ..

should I seek another Dr. or Nut. ?

glad you have spoken with a NUT - but, IMO i would definitely seek another NUT - sounds like the help you've been receiving has been pretty vague - not helpful at all

i would definitely get a new NUT - and keep coming back here for good advice :)

good luck

things will turn out

congrats on weight loss

btw - i hope you can open the manuel, it will be helpful

You really should see your nutritionist who will be able to tell you exactly what you need for your body. Your nutritionist should be able to get all of the information from your surgeon and create a plan for you. This is essential for moving from one phase to another. Good luck!

I got my surgery in Mexico and still came home with meal plans, detailed instructions on medicines and Vitamins. I also received meal plans, written log of my surgery and copies of all test results. Also was given a US number to call anytime for help, along with the doctor's number.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
