Wedding dress shopping after VSG

Recommended Posts

I had a VSG on August 13th and have lost 80 pounds in the last 4.5 months (21 weeks). I am getting married in May and am receiving a TON of pressure from my mom, sister, and aunts to go try on wedding dresses. Are they crazy? There is no way a dress I order now will fit me 4 months from now, even if I do plateau soon. I can’t get anyone to realize this and it is driving me crazy. None of my cousins got their dresses until 2 months before, and they didn’t even have the surgery so I don’t see what the big deal is all of a sudden. I have an appointment scheduled @ Davids Bridal for January 26th and I think that is too soon. Any thoughts, or anyone who went through the same experience?

You could go and look... Try on dresses and get an idea of waht you want... But I would wait to order anything... I am the MOH in my sister's wedding at the end of May... I was just sleeved 12.12 and I told her I am waiting until April to buy my dress!!!

Congratulations on the weight loss and the upcoming marriage. I think it is too soon to purchase a dress because you are still losing. I do think that it will not hurt to go "looking" that way you can see what's out there and pick a style you may like. If you have a style you may like, then it may be easier to find a dress to purchase with so little time left depending on how long you wait to purchase.

I agree you can started trying on and looking m, but I would wait for the last moment to order. Im getting married on Nov. 16 and I'm considering renting something off the rack; they will make alterations to fit me.

I agree, go and try on so you get an idea of what you like but do not buy. I was sleeved Feb 7th and then in a wedding at the end of May. Our dresses were made by the bride's grandmother and my last fitting was 3 weeks before the wedding. It was pretty baggy just in that short time! You will be a little farther out from surgery for your wedding so you will probably not see as much change, but wait as long as you can for your last fitting.

There's no harm in going out and trying things on, unless you hate that sort of thing (personally I don't like trying on clothes :P). I think your family is just excited and want to go have a girl's day, perhaps? You'll get an idea for the styles you like. Then, just hold off until much closer to your date to actually get a dress because we all know if you get something now there's absolutely no way it's going to fit in 4 months!

I wouldn't go this soon. Even if you find a style of dress you like, 4 months from now it may look totally different on your body.

I would wait to the last possible minute to buy a dress AND have a seamstress on-hand to make last minute alterations the week of your wedding.

When you do try on your dress nearer to your wedding date, make sure you wear your spandex or whatever underwear you will be using. It makes a HUGE difference in the fit of the dress.

I don't normally wear Shapewear, but it can make a lot of difference here.

I am in the same boat, I went to look for a dress with my family and was pressured into ordering one by the sales lady stating it woudl take twelve weeks to get in.. it took two, then i tried telling them It was too big and they told me to take it home and we could alter it. Four weeks later It was too big to be altered, I took it back and they exchanged it for a smaller size.. still waiting for it to be delivered... words of advice. Get at dress with less beads and frufru as it is easier to alter. They can only take it down two sizes, so the second time I ordered one I could fit that was tight on me. The first dress was a 20 the second a 16. I hoep it fits or it will be on to dress three for me.... let me know what you end up doing I'm curious.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
