Hi. I had my sleeve surgery on 12/10/12 and every since then it's really hard for me to take Protein in. Is there any way I can help keep it down? Any suggestions?

What kinds of Protein are you trying to eat? I was sleeved 12/12/12 and usually do one Protein Shake in the morning and 3-4 small meals of soft protein the rest of the day

Can you eat soft foods? Scrambled eggs? Greek Yogurt? Mix some Protein powder into grits or oatmeal or instant pudding mix.

Yes I can. Will it make any of that super thick and gritty?

I had my sleeve Tuesday 1/15/13 and I was told to start my Bariatric Advantage Protein shakes well I'm using a lactose free mootopia milk and my Protein shake is like.pudding is there any tips y'all might have that would help I'm sipping away but after the first few hours I went straight to just using a spoon because it was that thick. Do I add more milk or Water or what I'm.not sure what I.can and can't do hoping to get some advice from anyone who might have some to give.

In the beginning, a lot of my Protein came from "true moo" chocolate milk.. 8g a cup, and just plain milk is 9g.. I also have body by visalus protein powder. It's a soy protein, though.. it tastes like cake batter. Mix that into milk with some ice and it's a really thin but kind of icy shake. A cup and a half of milk and the 2 scoops is 24g. I say that, and I've totally slacked on my protein lately. I need to get back on the wagon. I also like the EAS advantage pre-made shakes. I think you just kind of have to try different kinds until you figure out what works for you.

Sleeved on 2/5 started purée today ( thicker) soft boiled egg puréed w mayo.. Kinda like a deviled egg. Tasted wonderful but sat in stomach like a rock! About 3 tablespoons.. Too much?

I'm 3 weeks post-op and tried puréed egg mayo; I found the same and didn't stop throwing up for an hour! I'm having trouble with most food but eggs really aren't my friend!

It could be that your stomach can not handle the mayo? Did you doctor recommend that to you? Just curious because I am about to hit the puréed stage myself. As for Protein, I use pure Protein Shakes. 35g of protein in the 11 oz can. So really you just need to drink two and you made your mark. They taste great, though not as yummy as the body by Vi shakes because those do taste like cake batter. Try adding a tablespoon of baking chocolate and some PB2 and you have yourself a PB cup shake and it's healthy. PB2 is amazing super low in calories and fat and tastes delicious in shakes. I too struggle with getting my protein in because its hard for me to drink as much Fluid as they want us too... Especially since we can't chug anymore. I'm not a big fluid drinker to begin with. I bought Isopure flavorless protein powder to add protein to my yogurt and other soft foods and I love it. 26g per scoop and it's not gritty at all. If you mix it in your yogurt and leave it in the fridge for a bit it completely dissolves and you can't even tell. I bought mine on Amazon. Gigantic bottle full almost to the lid for 45 dollars.

eggs are an issue for a lot of people, so don't worry if they don't agree with you right now. It took me 3 - 4 months before I could eat eggs again and I still cannot eat runny yolks (instant throwing up), but hard yolks are okay. Be careful about adding in Condiments that may add a lot of bad calories. Use yogurt instead of mayo.< /p>

Also, watch the chocolate milk, it is often very high in sugar and sugar is not your friend. I saw a bottle of Tru Moo chocolate milk (about 8 - 10 oz.) that had 40 grams of sugar! Waaaay too much!

I'm not doing well with the Protein yet either - one sip fills me to bursting point and then just comes back up again! I'll try your suggestions though - thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
