I am a bad girl. Yes I drink when I eat sometimes. Definitely within those 30 minutes. But I am almost 2 1/2 years out. Things are back to normal. I can eat more than I should. So, I am warning you not to follow me. Bad habits can slip back in.

What happens when you eat & drink together? The pyloric value can allow food to slip through more easily, so you do not get the "full" feeling and in the end eat more

Be wise and don't start.

I always did drink a little with my meals. I don't notice a difference with the full feeling between drinking and not drinking. I'm almost 2 years out and maintaining without problems.

I honestly can't tell either...but I'm only drinking a few sips.

I haven't had my surgery yet but I'm terrifed of this rule. I always have to drink when I eat because after one bite it feels stuck. I hope after my surgery its not like that :/

I was just wondering if many others drink with their food. I do. Can you tell a difference as far as appetite when you DON'T?

I am still pre op but I plan to get my fluids in and then eat

I don't drink with my meals - 30 mins before and wait 30 mins after - BUT if I need a sip of Water I take it, I just don't gulp it down!

I do drink with my meals, and I don't stop drinking before I eat, and I drink even when I'm eating. I don't usually drink a whole lot after I eat, but it isn't because I was told not to do it. I usually just don't want to do it (probably because I feel too full).

I do always get my Protein in, and I don't feel hungry. I've managed to lose over 80 pounds, and I am still losing. My surgery was August 2011.

At most a TINY sip at the end to clear the dryness. But after 30 minutes is up I start hitting the Water hard to get 80-100 oz in. Eating and drinking sure takes a lot of concentration now!

I used to until my dr told me this week not to worry about it. He said it was an old rule for bypass folks. So I drink now. The dr said that it won't hurt you.

My doctor says up to four ounces is fine with a meal. It is an old bypass thing that isn't as applicable with the sleeve, but it's often advised because people typcially drink far too much with a meal.

It's no different than having Soup. :) I don't drink with every meal, but with dinner I have a glass of wine. I don't drink 15 to 30 mins prior because when I am drinking fluids for fluids sake I'm drinking larger amounts, but on occasion while cooking I have a bit of wine as well. My doc is fine with this.

I saw someone say they drink wine...how long has it been since your VSL? I am under the impression that I can't drink alcoholic beverages for two years. I haven't touched booze since my surgery, and actually I planned on never bringing it back in to my diet because....I love booze. Lol!

I waited two months after my second surgery (aprox) three from the first. My doctor requires two months so that the healing is complete and then allows it but cautions you to account for it in your daily planning.

Often docs don't like it because it can be calorie rich with no other value. I'm a wine collector and I wouldn't have had this surgery if I couldn't enjoy wine again eventually.

Haha I see! Well I'm going to pretend you didn't say that! Haha I believe that my success comes from not drinking....and I was happy to Think I couldn't. :-) Haha what's that saying about ignorance? Tee hee. Man. I do love booze...but I better stay away...I was to say the least...a lush! :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
