After a couple years of refusing to even talk about WLS, the drs. have finally convinced me..

no, wait.. I've finally convinced myself that if I want to see my grandchildren, I've got to do this.

Not for someone else, but for me.

I'm 38, 280 pounds.. the highest I've ever been in my life.. and I don't intended to reach 290. EVER. This has got to stop, and for me, I know now, this is the only way.

Hooray for me? I don't know about all that.

What I do know is that I want to live to be really, really old.

I don't even have a consult date yet. I *do* have the paperwork from the drs. website so that I can get an appointment. I *have* done my research on www.lapband.com. I do know that this is the way I want to go.

So, I guess, as I posted just recently at www.beforeandafter.com, this is the first step of many.

Congrats on your decision Bama,

It will be the best decision of your life, or at least it was for me. I almost put it off till next year, instead I did it three months ago and 51 pounds are now gone. I'm so proud for you. Insurance companies are at the bottom of my list. I finally had to self pay in Mexico. Hooray for you. Keep in touch southern girl.

Congratulations on your decision, all of us here are in the same boat one way or the other and there is plenty of support on this site. Probably any question you may have has been covered in these forums and we welcome any new ones. I have not yet had my first fill so I am waiting for that new phase, but I already feel lighter, more energetic, and more in power of my own weight.

Best of luck to you!

Howdy, neighbor! Welcome to LBT. Have you selected your surgeon yet? Dr. Miles at Medical Center East did my surgery, and I really like both Dr. Miles and Dr. Schmitt, his partner.

Thanks, everyone, for the welcome and words of encouragement. I know it is cliche', but it truly does help knowing that there are others out there to talk to, who have gone before me.

Tami, I was recommended to Dr. Richard Stahl at Cahaba Valley Surgical Group. I just mailed the paperwork to them this morning, so we will see.

I have heard of Dr. Miles, though. He did my step-mother's surgery.

I've heard of Dr. Stahl, too, and I know he has a good reputation. Plus, Shelby Medical will be a little closer to you.

Good luck on your lapband journey.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
