Had my vgs surgery on 12/10/12 and cannot hardly eat

Recommended Posts

My vgs surgery was on the 10th and I am 3 weeks out today and still am having a hard time holding things down. Went to my dr for post op and he said I had a hiatal hernia repair along with my vgs. When I eat my chest hurts and It feels like the food is not going down very well. Has anyone else had this problem? I have lost 25lbs since my surgery and 36lbs since the pre-op diet.

Yep, that's my problem. I had a repair as well and i thought there was something wrong with my throat. I just had my 6 week follow up and my doctor said it was normal and it would get better.

I had surgery June 4th. I had the same problem. I was on full liquid for almost 6 weeks, because the doctor likes to make sure his patients are all the way healed before they are introduced to solid food. This surgery takes a while to heal and keep up with your liquids, don't try eating solid foods yet. It does get better, I promise you. I can eat normally now, I don't have pain when I eat or drink and I healed well. I had polyps removed, hiatal hernia repair and adhesions removed and I had a complication and my esophagus had some issues and when I finally did eat, it felt like food was stuck in my throat. After about 7-8 weeks, it was so much better. Give it some time to heal and try to stay positive.

I was on liquids for 3 weeks and then introduced soft foods at 4 weeks and no solids until 5 weeks...I still eat very small portions most times. Somethings such as popcorn I can eat more. I have less of the stuck feeling unless I overeat or drink too soon after eating. As a previous poster said, it does get better and pretty soon you will be able to eat a whole egg...lol. Most mornings that is all I can eat but sometimes I add a half piece of toast (bad carbs dont do it..lol) or slice of bacon...I am so happy though with the self control my sleeve had afforded me. It is so worth it and things will get better. Congrats on the weight loss...I am 4 months post op and I have lost 55lbs...

In the same boat - few days shy of three weeks and still only drink about 15 oz of liquid a day. My dr. Said not to worry about the protien now - he just wants me to focus on hydration.

The dr had a catherter inserted into my arm late last week and we are scheduling a nurse to come buy the house a few times a week to get an IV for hydration until I can hydrate on my own.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
