Can anyone tell me about your experience going to mexico, for surgery, alone. I am going to go at some point at the end of winter, probably alone. Husband will have to stay home with kiddos. I will be going to Mi hospital in TJ and Dr. Garcia will be my surgeon. I am going through Ready4Achange. Thank you for any help and support.

I'm going alone in March. There will be lots of other sleevers there at Mi and also in the Marriott many will be alone. When you get your surgery date, post on here and there's sure to be others going at the same time as you.

I just went alone last week and was sleeved by Aceves. I felt comfortable the whole time. I met a fellow sleever in the shuttle from the airport to the hospital, had my "last meal" with them at the hotel, and we were always checking in on each other in our rooms. I never felt alone and was grateful to them for the companionship! I think you will have a similar experience and will definitely run into fellow sleevers while doing your walking in the hospital. You will be fine!

I too am going alone in Feb. My husband wants to go but it will be difficult for him to get enough time off to accompany me, I just don't want to put it off again. I'm ready to get it over with already! I pray all will be well, I have a friend that went to Dr. Almanza and she went alone. She insists that I should go alone to avoid having to entertain a guest, more time for recovery she says. I'm nervous because I've never been out of the country before and to go alone at that! I too am using Dr. Garcia and r4ac.< /p>

I went alone. It was a piece of cake. Had someone there to pick me up at the airport. No trouble crossing border. Felt safe the entire time I was there. :)

To the OP:

No worries, I went in September to Dr Garcia. He is an amazingly skilled surgeon, you have made the right choice. I was by myself and you well meet others at the hotel/hospital.

Tell Meli and Rosi that Donna says HI!!!!!

Heres a little research I did Dr. Q: I'm being sleeved on Jan 11, 2013

*works at the state hospital (you only can work at the state hospital if you have no fatalities

*has 100% no leak rate

*all inclusive package not including air fare

*allows you to bring a guest at not extra charge

*you recover in your private room (couch, private bath, couch, chair, round the clock medical attention for 2 days

*Dr. Q unlike other doctors he only performs 4 surgeries a day (because his facility only has 4 private rooms

*Dr, Q also is a medical teacher

*Dr. Q allows you to fly in the day of your surgery instead of spending a night in San Diego (your choice)

*Dr. Q gives you the video of your surgery at no cost just as long as you request it while you are there

*Dr. Q performs the procedure in a medical facility

*Dr. Q taught Dr. Almanza

Special for vertical sleeve member 4000

Call 619 ******* Henry or India 619 *******

Maybe you should post a new thread for this. It really does not relate to this post. Sounds like you are trying to sell this Doctor??

@amazon13 first and foremost this is a public forum and EVERYONE is entitled to his or her own opinion, next I posted exactly what I wanted, you have a choice to use the info I posted or not, furthermore I'm also traveling to Mexico alone and passing on the information I learned on a doctor via research and why I chose this doctor, for anyone who is traveling alone or even looking for a doctor if they don't have one!!!! Lastly I am not in any way affiliated with this doctor nor will I receive any financial gain if someone decides to use him!!!!

You was sleeved by Dr. Garcia so if I asked you why you chose him and you gave me your reasons would that be considered selling him, get some business and don't ever address me with innuendos of trying to sell a doctor thanks.

This is a public forum where everyone can have opinions, and answer a question as they see fit

@amazon13 you must have a lot of time on your hands to stalk post on a public forum or no friends but at any rate get some business and remember this is a public forum, this means ppl will have different opinions, respond how they see fit, you have the option to take their post in heed or not your choice, THIS IS WHY IT'S A PUBLIC FORUM!!!!!

If you don't like or disagrees with what someone's post then take it as a grain of salt and move on!!!!

Thanks for the good luck as always appreciated

@geauxforit thank you soon much for your post, as I am not selling any doctor just given reasons why I chose this doctor for my personal preference as I am too traveling to Mexico alone.

Just was trying to be a resource of information sharing what I learned to those who are looking for a doctor or even considering traveling to Mexico their is so much info out there it can be overwhelming. The ultimate decision is for the individual to make.

C'mon people. Enuff already.

Sobiato, many have posted trying to "sell" surgeons and it is not well received. I'm not saying you, not at all, are but ppl are wary. Coordinators posting/posing as patients.

Thank you for the info on your surgeon of choice and I hope you have a safe and successful surgery. I also hope you'll stick around and keep us involved in your journey.

Amanda Rae

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
