Joint Replacement Surgery post VSG

Recommended Posts

I'll be 4 months out when I have my first knee replacement surgery. Looking for any hints or suggestions for anyone whom has experienced this. I had my labs drawn this past friday- all nutrition levels look good, trying to get at least 60 g of Protein a day.

I need both knees replaced. My Ortho dr is waiting on the go from me. I'm holding off till I am at my goal weight. Till then, I just get shots about every 3 months that last about a month but worth the month. I'd love to hear how yours goes.

I've had both knees replaced and one hip done twice all within 38 months. Mine were done pre sleeve but if there is anything I can answer, I would be glad to help. Knee replacement is much more difficult to recover from compared to WLS. Expect about a year to really get back to normal. Next on my agenda is Ankle replacement most likely later this year.

This is an interesting thread. I may be in the same situation eventually. I receive shots now and hoping to put off the knee replacement and see how the WLS help.

I too would like hear how yours go.

Good luck!

I am a manager of an ortho floor and the key to success is physical therapy early on. Its easy to ask someone to go get something for you but movement helps. Our knee patients do really well, remember also that hand washing is the number one way to prevent infections. You do not want an infection in a total joint.

I had bilateral knee replacements about 3.5 years prior to the sleeve. I lost all interest in food post-op, and lost about 20 lbs. So I would say that you will have to make a concerted effort to get your Protein in. It is a very painful surgery, but know that the pain will pass, and that life is so much better when you can walk without pain! Good luck!

Scheduled for simultaneous bilateral total hips on 1/15 I'm 13 months out and down 155 lbs and so ready to " keep it movin" dr said 6 months was enough between sleeve and hips I glad I waited longer I feel more fit and ready!

I had both knees done in my 40's, about 4&5 years ago. Best thing I ever did for myself AND the hardest. I love my life now. Important to success is PT and I totally agree with the person who said it takes a good year to recover. Good luck everyone!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
