Pain in my left shoulder

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks out (12/5/12) and just started experiencing pain in my left shoulder. It seems to get worse after I eat. I am thinking it is gas, but I seriously thought I would be passed that by now.

I have had minimal discomfort, am working hard to get in about 50 gm of Protein, 64 oz of Water and my Vitamins. Most days I reach these goals.

Any thoughts on this? Oh and when I take gas x strips it subsides but doesn't go away completely.

Sounds like gas pain and it's just referring up to your shoulder. Massage your stomach after you eat, see if that helps any. Are you on a antacid like prevacid or something? That should keep the gas down also.

It has to do with a nerve in your stomach that radiates up to your shoulder. I had it on and off for 5 years with my lapband. I no longer have this pain(though it was a dull pain).

I had the same thing for about a week immediately post op. it was pretty miserable. Gas x and a heating pad on my stomach ans shoulder really helped.

Wow. 5 years?!? I hope this goes away soon. Lol. I am not taking any Prevacid or anything like that. I am gonna try and avoid that if I can. Will continue to use gas x and heating pad. Just glad it isn't a heart attack. Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
