Questions about diet 1 week out of surgery.

Recommended Posts

My surgeon/dietitian basically just gave me a hand out stating what stages i start what, and examples of food

right now I am a week out of surgery, I had it on DEC 18th, and the packet that I received gave suggestions like tuna, mash potato's, Soup, shakes, shaved deli meat. etc.

I'm just making sure this is right, I'm watching my portions, making sure I don't eat to much, but every time I eat, or drink I burp, and until I do its painful. Any input would be amazing, TY!!

Hmmmmm... It almost sounds like you are sucking air down when you eat. I had a similar problem cuz I was eating too fast. My husband used to have to burp me like a little baby. Maybe, I know this will be painful in it self, try to eat slower and make sure you are never eating and drinking at the same time. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the responses. I was a little lost I'm glad I came across this website. I am using a straw with my liquids and its helping with the burping from that. ( googled).

My surgeon does not allow us to use straws what so ever. It makes you swallow air.

Good luck.

i had the surgery the same day as you and i have the same issue. everything i drink, except for Water, essentially goes down slow and will cause a type of bubbling in my stomach and eventual burping.

When i had my barium leak test, the doc said results show that liquids go down very very slowly so I'm wondering if that might be my issue.

Congrats! I'm so excited for us! It's just the annoying little things like the excess burping with everything I show I do it more with Water and not milk. And it happens with everything I eat.

I emailed my dr's nurse to double check thank you. Because clearly it states in the hand out Those foods. I too thought it was to early so I've been doing yogurt and Soup blended things

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
