Are you measuring your food? Just take 1 bite at a time. 1 bite, then relax. Let it digest. Be patient with your body. How long ago was your surgery?

Sometimes I hate eating. I keep eating to much and getting sick. It's like not worth eating.

When was your surgery?

I understand I am 17 days out and having trouble knowing when I am full. Seems I go from empty to overfull in less

than a bite. It has caused a few episodes of pain or tossing my Cookies. (note there were no actual cookies).

I have to learn to eat slower. Also twice I forget and used a straw and drank fluids, all of which led to the above.

At this stage you should be 5 to 6 weeks out and on a pureed diet/soft foods. You should be measuring your food and be consuming 3 - 4 ounce increments in each sitting. I had surgery 4 months ago and I can only eat 2 ounces in each sitting, but I eat 4 - 5 times a day and smaller portions. I was sick and regurgitating all the time, because I was getting to full at 3 - 4 ounces of food. And what also helps me is that I eat with a baby spoon and fork so I know I'm not consuming to much at a time. It's just a lifestyle change you will get use to it, and just try to eat slow and maybe start at 2 ounces, your body will let you know when you can consume more or need to back off. It gets better:)

I have said this many times this week. It seems my capacity is different each time and it just takes that one bite to ruin it..I'm happier without food than with at this point.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
