So the photocopy is a way for them to know the money is on its way and assures them that payment will be made.

How would you pay? is a cashier cheque the same as a travelers cheque? Im coming from Canada

You would get what is called a Bank Draft payable to the Doctor for the remaining amount owing.

My surgery was around 10k including flights and accommodations I also was required to submit a 1' date='000 pre-payment to secure my date for surgery. I didn't encounter any problems with the financial side. And the doctor also gave me documentation because I guess I can write it off of my taxes which is nice![/quote']

$12,000 cash in the Houston, TX area. If I financed through Care Credit it would have been $14,000.

Bgerb - check with your tax preparer - may or may not be deductible if it is outside of the US.

Payment I think.... You can get there and see its not a rip off before you pay lol. Oh and it was in us funds but the dollars good now anyway:)

So I'm considering just paying myself but I wonder what it will cost and what others have done who've gone this route. I may use care credit.

I'm just wondering why you aren't having the surgery in Canada Frank? Don't you have a good Medicare system, similar to Australia? All up, using one of the top surgeons in this field, I am out of pocket $3,000.

They offer it for free, you get a Doctors referral and hope for the best. They never call to confirm you are in the waiting list. I am tire of waiting. It can take up to 2 yrs.

I really hope that it all works out for you.

This surgery should be supplemented by all governments. It not only saves lives but decreases the number of people who eventually take up hospital beds due to numerous ailments caused by their weight. It was recently recognized as the most beneficial surgery developed in the last 10 years. It just seems so wrong that when so many people need this surgery that it is so hard for most of those in need of it to have.

For me, it has definitely been a lifesaver in many ways.

Yes the waiting list is huge, more than two years in my province. Self pay option is available here too for $12000-16000... And I have a lower bmi so the chances of me getting in before someone's else with higher bmi or other issues are pretty much nil right now. I went to Mexico and had it done, no regrets;)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
