There is a LOT of info about mx surgeries and surgeons on this forum if you dig. The top surgeons you'll hear about are

Guillermo Alvarez

Ariel Ortiz

Almanza

Aceves

Fernando Garcia(my pick)

Lopez

jaime Ponce de leon

There are others. TONS of happy patients. :)

I thought it sounded crazy at first too. :)

TO THE OP - i am hoping for the 18th-22nd

Do you have a sleeve buddy? I see we may be there at the same time.

What's a sleeve buddy?

A friend to make the visit to Mexico more comfortable, some one to look after you if need be. make phone calls, emails, or post on this website to family and friends incase 1 person is unable to. Its ususally someone thats having the surgery at the sametime and same place.

Some people are afraid to go to mexico but are going ahead with it anyway for a better way of life.

I went by myself to Mexico. Do your research. I chose C. Juarez with Dr Rodriguez. He's done over 10,000 surgeries.. Experience is everything.

I'm going to Mexico on Monday morning all by myself. I grew up living in San Diego (still do). It's a different country...clearly, hello? But I had a lot of fun going down there and noticing those differences traveling around. Now things have changed requiring a passport, etc. But after booking my appointment, I'm glad that my local family won't be able to go. Just me!

The hospital is Sooo close to the border too.

I wish I had a sleeve buddy too tho~[/quote']

I just came back last week from surgery and didn't need a passport. I just had my ID and birth certificate.

Really, no passport? What about coming back to the states?

Nope I didn't need it to come back. Everything went smooth without it. I had surgery 12/5

I'm here in Tijuana now and I came alone. Surgery went fine and the doctors were able to keep the nausea at bay, which was a big concern for me. Drs. Lopez and Osuna did my sleeve at Mi hospital. The hospital is clean and several of the nurses are fluent in English. Make sure the nurses keep your Fluid bags going nonstop.

Important! Have a good hiding place in your suitcase for valuables....otherwise they WILL walk off. Also, bring a sleeping mask for your eyes and some earplugs. Someone didn't consider lights glaring in patients eyes during the construction process. It's very noisy. The highway to the border is right across the street and the people waiting LOVE to honk their horns. And finally - bring a hair dryer....the hospital doesn't supply one....

Overall, I am pleased with my decision. I'm glad I had two nights in the hospital and two nights at the hotel before flying home tomorrow. Recovery is no joke!

P.S. bring your passport or passport card....really....it's better to be safe than sorry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
