Help! I cheated on the pre-op diet!

Recommended Posts

I feel terrible. I've been on the mandatory 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I just binged.... Cookies, chips... Ugh. My surgery is in 5 days and I'm scared I'm gonna be denied surgery....I've lost 10 lbs already ad I just had a moment of weakness..... Has anyone else lost control during their pre-op? I need prayers!!!

Hi I just got sleeved on 12/10/12 and I def cheated on my 2 week diet twice on the secound day i went to outback and had a drink shared an apeatizer and had my own meal granted they were off the $4 dollar menu so they werent HUGE! but none the less, Then three days in i ate pudding on accident (didnt know it was clear gellotin not pudding) so when i had my meeting with my surgeron a week before surgery I confessed (spilled the beans)

I told him everything I did and that I took a whole bottle of citrus of magnesium on the 4th day of my diet and drank 1 Liter of Water or more to help clean my system of those BAD BAD FOODS. He told me I was ok and I would have no problem getting my surgery, AS LONG AS I DID NOT CHEAT ANYMORE!! and I didnt.

Everything still went as planned.

So what i suggest to you is :

1.STOP CHEATING (LOL) I know you really really want this surgery since you have gotten this far! just keep thinking and planning your future and remind yourself of that and what you want every single time you think of cheating during these two weeks.

2.CLEAN YOUR SYSTEM: now I'm not sure if you can do this I would tread lightly I was in a panic and refused to not be able to get my surgery so I did that without consulting my surgeon or the nurses in his office.

3.TELL YOUR SURGEN AND YOUR DIETITCAN: asap because you will know what you are looking at you dont want to have cheated go in like you never cheated and then be told that you cant get your surgery after they have put you under anethsia and brought you to the OR be straight forward and ask how can you fix the situation.

GOOD LUCK!

I DOUBT IT WILL GET IN THE WAY OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING, BUT TO BE SURE ASK!!! I WOULD HATE TO HAVE BEEN TURNED AWAY IN THE OPERATING ROOM AFTER GETTING SO EXCITED!!

Jalese, that is great advise, thank you! I don't have a dietitian, but I will call my surgeons office today.... It's gonna be hard to admit but you are right about EVERYTHING! Great detailed advise, thank you.

I'm reading these posts and I am surprised because my surgery is on Dec 19 and I was given my preop diet and its not completely liquid. It's a 1000 calorie diet.

Was it just a low-carb 1000 calorie diet?

Yeah it's basically like 2 lean cuisine meals a day 60 grams of Protein and 64 oz of Fluid per day.

I called my surgeons. Office. They weren't too happy. Told me to get back on track right away. Said that the surgeon requires the 2 week post-op diet in lieu of the "bowel prep" before surgery which consists of drinking a bottle of magnesium citrate and pooping your brains out for a day. Idk.... I think I'd like to have a "last meal" and go through the poop-a-thon for a day, rather than starve myself and be pooping my guts out anyway on all these liquids...... Anyone post-op that cheated on their diet out there???

Do you think your "last meal" will taste as good as you will feel after you are sleeved and losing weight? One of the reason's my surgeon requires the two week liquid diet is that how well you do on it ultimately factors into how successful you'll be afterwards. Tonight was my opportunity for that "last" meal. I really wanted to splurge but knew that it would be counterproductive. I figured that this decision is the first of many steps toward my new beginning. So a small Soup, salad and Vitamin Water it was! My first victory! I have no fairy tell ideas that these two weeks will be easy but I will take it one day, one bite at a time. Hold on, you can make it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
