Worried About Lack Of Restriction

Recommended Posts

Need advise. I was sleeved on 11/19 and feel like I'm doing really well. Very little soreness as long as I don't try to overdo. I am able to drink with only occasional stomach cramps if I go too fast. No problem with Soups either. I am supposed to be on full liquid diet till day 21 so I have been eating the Cambell's Soup to go cups and Protein Drinks. I am able to finish a cup in a setting. Is that too much? I thought the size of the sleeve was too small to accomidate that much, but I'm not feeling over full or anything.

Is the lack of restriction because it is liquid? I guess it's kind of silly to worry this soon after about it being too big, but sometimes I wonder if the surgeon got it small enough. I see all these posts about how people have such a hard time drinking this soon post op and it makes me wonder if I am just fortunate or if there is something wrong with me. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would just be happy that you were fortunate to have no issues. You won't feel any restriction with the liquids. They go right through. Now, when you get to soft foods you will notice it then!

I am similar to you. I was sleeves 11/15. When I was on liquid I could get a half a cup down as long as I was slow. Now i'm on puree and can do maybe 1/4 a cup. How ever my weight loss is slow ok only down 9 lbs. How much have you lost.

I was sleeved on the 13th, and I had the same thing. but had my first eggs today and i definitely over did it because I had a terrible "stuck" feeling in my stomach and chest for a few hours. very uncomfortable.

I had no problems with water/liquid from day 2 on. I thought my sleeve was broken. I also was hungry until I was cleared for "real" food. Once I was eating dense Protein (meat, eggs) I finally felt the restriction everyone was talking about. I'm 7 months out and a meal is about 1.5 to 2 oz of protein or one egg. Try not to worry... I know easier said then done.. but you will feel the restriction once you get past liquid and mushy stages.

Thanks everyone! Guess I just don't want to have gone thru all this for nothing. I am at around 600 cal per day. 249 day of surgery, 255 after surgery, 239 today 2 weeks out. Afraid I'm a slow loser but I don't know what's "normal".

I could always drink super easy from the get go. And eating rarely was. a problem either. It's been almost 10 months and I've lost 60 just 15-20 more to go! i am short 5'0" and started at 205. I eat pretty much what ever I want and I don't exercise. I'm sure IF I were more diligent I would be at goal now. But I also didn't want to feel like I was on a never ending diet! After the holidays I plan to start exercising more faithfully so I will be 100% at goal by spring ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
