How Much Did Price Affect Your Decision?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently searching for a doctor. I was strongly leaning toward dr Alvarez, but the more research I do, the more competent surgeons I find. Right now I'm seriously considering Dr. Ismael Cabrera Garcia in Tijuana, but I'm really struggling with the price... not because it's too high but because it's SO LOW! He charges $4500 and that includes 3nights at the Marriott and 2 nights in the hospital.

I feel like he easily stacks up against the local surgeons I have to choose from near me, I can find no negatives about him, I LOVE Christy the TC at MBC... but I keep coming back to the price.... Why is he charging so little? Thoughts?

Is he the one that practices with Huacuz? Be sure to check. There is a surgeon who is under Huacuz with a similar name and that's the pa have they offer. Huacuz has several bad reviews out there. I had a friend who used him for lap and in 2009 and had a wonderful experience so I looked at him first. After the reviews I read and the odd conversation with Rossy I have no desire to use him. I am going through Ready4Achange and using Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana in March. Good luck as you work on choosing a surgeon!

Well I chose Dr Fernando Garcia. I believe his price is still $4700.00. He is an amazingly skilled surgeon and has performed over 4000 surgeries. I understand he also trains others for different surgeries. If you research him he is fantastic and you can not go wrong with him. If you need more information please PM me. Good Luck.

Thanks Shannon, His partner is Louisiana Valensueala and he practices at Mi Doctor in Tijuana. I think this is the same hospital as Fernando Garcia, No?

I also considered Alvarez and Aceves, but there's no way I could come up with that amount of money unless I saved for years, and I'm ready for the surgery now. I've decided to go with Dr. Lopez who also works out of Mi hospital :) and he's in the 4,700 range.

Price did play a factor for me as well but I also did the research and went with Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. I am 16 days post-op and feeling great!

Good luck on your search and your journey! Can't wait to see you on the losers bench :)

Yes you're right. Several surgeons use Mi Doctor. I chose the surgical duo of Dr. Lopez and Dr. Osuna. I booked thru A Lighter Me. They're husband and wife and I cannot find a bad review anywhere! My other choice was dr. Ponce de leon who also has great reviews. He uses INT Hospital in TJ. Dr. F. Garcia has excellent reviews also and uses Mi Doctor. He books thru ALM and R4C. It is hard to decide. So many people on here have shared excellent experiences with several surgeons.

Well after talking with Christy the TC with MBC, I booked with the Cabrera/Valensuela team. Honestly though all of the doctors I researched were well qualified. It was hard to decide because F.Garcia, Cabrera, Alvarez, Ponce, Lopez. and Aceves all have very positive stats and good reviews.

I am going through dr aceves on April 10th. He also does financing and from what a few people said that its not based in your credit it's in house financing.

I see that this thread has been revived. Just to update, I have been sleeved and had a great experience with Dr's Cabrera and Valenzuela at MiDoctor hospital in Tijuana, Mexico.. For me no need to pay more for the more expensive doctors when I was perfectly comfortable with the team I selected. Best $4500 I ever spent.

I asked Nina about this and she said that they may not be offering this anymore due to payments not coming in on time. So the in house financing was not offered to me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
