Thanksgiving Freak Out

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. So I'm going on week 8 post op and today I start solid foods. I don't know how the transition will be from mushies to solids but I do know that I'm not as hung up on eating as I was a couple weeks ago.

With that said, I am still worried because in the past the holidays use to mean eating a lot of food and being lazy. This year I plan to stick to my workout regime but as far as food goes, I'm worried I might over indulge. <_<

So my question is this, what are some tactics to use in order to not slip up? Does anyone have a advice? I'm looking to stay on the right track.

I am also at 8 week's post op. 8 weeks actually as of yesterday. What we are doing for thanksgiving this year is turkey and healthy veggies that way there is nothing available that is not good for me. My hubby is being extremely supportive of me and has not made a fuss.about not being able to have the normal thanksgiving dinner. I have also heard of other.people saying their families are making adjustments to how they make certain things to make it healthier.

I haven't had surgery yet but I know this is one of my worries, I have bought a couple toddler plates and silverware and plan on taking those with me when I eat at others homes or restaurants at least until I get the hang of it all and can eyeball what is too much. I don't know if the people you are spending the day with are aware of your WLS but I hope this helped and congrats on your surgery and your WL journey.

I told my family that I won't be spending thanksgiving with them this year because I need to adjust. They were very understanding.

Turned down Thanksgiving with my in-laws because driving 5 hours less than 2 weeks out of surgery makes me nervous. Instead we are having a small thanksgiving and since I'll still be on liquids, I plan on turkey broth & cranberry juice.

Just couldn't do the huge family thing. Too far and too food centered.

At 8 weeks I was pretty much unable to over-indulge. Now at 10 months I can a little. I suggest you do what you have been doing which is Protein first, then filling the edges with healthy things. We usually have a couple healthier vegetable dishes and a tiny bit of mashed potato won't hurt anyone. Just eat the turkey and veggies. They're good for you.

My plan is 2oz of moist (www hate that word lol) turkey and literally a baby spoon bite of my other faves. I made cranberry sauce with splenda, low carb pumpkin pie with crushed pecans as the crust and mashed cauliflower/potatoes. I pretty much made healthy substitutions to all dishes so that while I may not be having it all tonight, I don't see any problem in leftovers. I'm excited to not obsess over having to eat everything.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
