28 And Mom To 17 Month Old

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I am getting sleeved in January. I am new here, but do a lot of reading. I was wondering if anyone else is getting sleeved that has a toddler? I know about the risks, but I have around 100lbs to lose..but am really nervous that something will happen and I will leave my son. Anyone else in my position? Thanks in advance. :)

hi daisy! i was sleeved on the 6th and i have a 2 1/2 year old. i am separated from my hub right now but i do have a lot of friends who come over and help. i know everyone heals different but honestly if i didnt have their help i think i would be perfectly fine. the first few days you will need help not gonna lie. but i am post op 5 days now and feel great. my only challenge is i can not lift her up. she has mastered climbing in her high chair but we've been doing dinner at her coloring table so it hasnt been too bad. the incision pain is so minimal too at this point and she knows how to get pull ups, pants and socks are so its a big help. i just like you have over 100 to lose and although emotionally after first i was having trouble, i am feeling much happier about my decision and love feeling restriction and knowing when to stop. im still on liquids for another week. i would really research, become familiar w/ all the complications that can arise but do this for you and only you!! good luck in your decision!!

Thank you so much for your input. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one with a small kiddo :) It sounds like you're doing really well, congrats! I know that in the long run it will benefit him as well, it's just the what if's that are scary.

I am 44 with a 2 1/2 year old. I worry, but keep thinking of what a better mommy I will be once I lose weight and become active and healthy!

I deserve to be a healthy Mommy and he deserves to have a healthy Mommy!

My husband is trying to eat healthier and be more active as well.

Had the exact same fears. I have a 19 month old and 4 year old twins. I figured it was time to roll the dice. I thought the 1-3% risk of something happening was better odds than the 100% risk of leaving them early due to my weight. I was sleeved 10/23 and honestly the only issue I have is the lifting. The pain was pretty non-existent for me which in a way was bad because i forget and still lift the baby. It's really impossible not to (in and out of the car seat etc). So far no issues but holding my breath I don't pop a hernia. Good luck!

Hi...I'm very new to this and just starting my wls journey. Just like you I have a little one (she'll be one on 11/27) I'm hoping to get sleeved sometime early 2013, but I often wonder if I'm doing the right thing...

I know what you mean, it's scary! But I just try to remind myself of all the things I will be able to do with my son in the future. Just trying to stay positive, and know that this is will be helpful to all of my family in the long run. Keep in touch, we can support each other! :)

Oh I know...when I start freaking out about my decision I just remind myself of everything I'll be able to do with her and the good example I'm going I be for her. I need all the support I can get. Haven't really told anyone other than immediate family about the surgery. Don't want to hear negativity.

I haven't told anyone other than my mom or husband, so I completely understand! Everyone I have talked to on here so far is super nice. I definitely think this is a great support system. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask!

When I got sleeved, I was 28, and my son was 17 months old. How funny is that? LOL. The night before surgery I let him sleep in my bed and squeezed him tight the whole night. On the way to the hospital, I cried and told my husband that he'd better raise him right, tell him everyday how much I loved both of them, and told him that I'd recorded videos on my phone for both of them. NeedIess to say I over reacted.

Since surgery I have more energy to roll around on the floor with him, run around in the park (instead of just sitting and watching him play), and jump on the trampoline. I was always a great mom, but now I'm an awesome mom!

You won't only be doing this for you, you will be doing this for your babies! They need and want an active mommy in their lives.

You're absolutely right, one of my biggest inspiration for getting this surgery is my daughter. I want to be able to be active with her not just sit off on the side because I get tired.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
