Deposit made... Still in tears...

I know how you feel, I swear I'm going bipolar here lol one minute I'm so excited and the next I'm wondering if maybe I can really do this on my own... I also made my deposit today with Dr Joya, I'm going with my girlfriend on 12/05/12 and we are going insane. Maybe you want to change the dates and come with us :) it's only 2 weeks from today so not much time to go too crazy about it :P

I wish I could! I'm a teacher so I wouldn't be able to book 2 weeks off :( my surgery is the week before our march break so that I can have that to recover on and only take one week off. I also couldn't get flights using airmiles before Christmas, all of those flights were gone already or I would have gone the week before Christmas!

Best of luck tho! Keep me posted! Did they send you a pre-op diet or any pre op instructions yet?

That's too bad, but I guess the good thing is that we will get to tell you all about it and u will feel much better when your turn comes because we all will go great :)

And yes they sent me the pre-op diet already, a bit vague, so I kept asking questions and sending emails till I got a menu type guide lol I'm sure they hate me already but we are paying a tot compare to other people, so if I have doubts I will ask away lol

lol I know what you mean, the every time he sent an answer, I'd ask another question lol

Can you send me what you ended up getting from them about the pre-op diet?

I literally want a play by play of what happens lol

If there is anything that you think I should bring that's out of the norm... or if there is any point where you couldn't do something without your friend, can you let me know that too? :)

Did you notice they changed the hotel over the past week? looks a lot nicer and has better reviews than the krystal!

I don't notice the hotel change, I've been so nervous that didn't even pay attention to that. Thanks for pointing it out, I did get a message saying our room was ocean-view :D

Ad you have a friend here too... Big hugs hon!

I was wondering the same thing. I haven't seen anything really negative about him. I have researched a few Dr's in Tijuana but I'm not interested in crossing the border and I would not be able to use airmiles to fly to San Diego from Canada... so flying directly into Mexico is the option I am looking for. I found negative reviews on the Dr. in Cancun so that option is also out. I am seriously considering Dr Joya due to reviews and simplicity of the travel. I can have a friend come with me and they are able to stay at the hospital and hotel with me for no extra cost so that is also appealing as I'd be paying for her travel and food etc... basically everything for her to come with me.

So I'm hoping to see a few recent reviews from anyone that has gone to Dr. Joya? Both good' date=' and bad.

I have also watched a few videos from people who went to Dr joya on youtube, all is well so far?[/quote']

Can you point me to the negative reviews you found about Cancun. Which Doctor?

Ya someone just asked that I posted a link, might be on the second page? If you don't find it, I can re-send it to you when I'm at home. Let me know if you don't see it. :)

I didn't research a ton, but I read a few things and then came across the link I posted for someone else and then stopped. I heard enough to not make me choose that dr.

I had the gastric sleeve done with Dr Joya on August 27 th!!! It was easily the best decision I've made for my life and health!!! Everyone treated me so good!! They know what they are doing.. Me and two other girls had our surgeries the same days and were at the hospital together !! We hardly had any pain and almost 4 months post op.. I'm doing great.. No complications or problems.. I'm almost 40 lbs down (I'm a slo looser due to PCOS). But I don't regret going to dr Joya not one minute!!!

So glad your surgery went great. I also felt very well taken cared off. Dr Olivares, Dr Joya's partner or surgeon assistant did part of the following up, and he was amazing. I will miss him. He made me laugh a few times and thought my stitches were going to open. Also Dr Espinoza is extremely professional. I wish i could had brought them with me back lol because in case of emergency i know i will never be in such good hands here as i was there.

Can I ask a question please? maybeoneday in an earlier post you said that if you paid for the surgery all at once you can claim in in your taxes, if you dont pay all at once can you not claim it? I have out flights booked and surgery date of January 9. I was just curious if I you pay for it all this week. Thanks for amy advice you could give me.

Well I'm from Canada so I'm not sure if it's going to be completely different for you or not. I spoke to the CRA a few weeks ago.

I paid for the deposit in Nov. The balance of 5500 (since I'm doing the insurance) is due at the time of surgery. I wanted to pay for it all in 2012, so I could claim it all on my 2012 income tax when I go to do it in March'ish.

However, i was told I could pay in advance and then I was told I could not. Since I moved my surgery date up to Jan, I will do my taxes from Feb 2012-Jan 2013 (any 12 consecutive months). Here your medical has to be more than 3% of your income or more than $2200'ish, any amount over the roughly 2200, can be used as a deductible and we get around $0.25 for every dollar we spend after that. (I'm look at getting $1000'ish)

It doesn't have to be all at once... but I didn't want to wait until 2014 to be able to claim it, and didn't want to do taxes from april - march 2013 since it would just screw everything up and make it complicated.

The CRA looked up the info, they MAY request my receipts and when I has plastic surgery about 7 years ago (I claimed breast implants) they asked for the receipts and I got $2000 back... lol go figure! They have sine changed it and do not allow plastic surgery unless there is a reason for it.

So grab all your receipts from your surgery and claim it.. then again... i really have no idea how anything works in the states.

Maybe make a post asking others from the states if and what they did?

Sorry I can't be of more help, or call whoever you deal with for taxes there and ask directly like I did, or you can look up all of that online too, but i preferred to speak to someone. It's worth a shot tho :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
