The Change In Mindset Is So Nice...

Recommended Posts

So, I hit 50 lbs lost (YAY!!) and I started to think of how this would typically be the point where I'd fall off that metaphorical wagon of dieting. At this point, your clothes are hanging off and people are more than likely noticing that you're losing weight. Before, having people notice would scare the CRAP out of me. I felt like OMG, the pressure is on to keep losing because they expect it. Unfortunately, when I'm feeling pressured/anxious/scared/etc, I turn to food....cue falling off the wagon and gaining the weight back. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It is SO NICE not having to worry about that this time around. Instead of being afraid or scared I'm hopeful and looking forward to the next 50 and the next 50 after that. A few people have noticed and it feels so good to accept the compliment and not internalize the pressure and freak myself out. I take the compliment and move on with my day with a big smile. I have never been able to do that before. It feels FABULOUS!!

I will say, it isn't only the surgery that changed this. I am seeing a therapist because I know most of my issues were mental and emotional. She has been very important in my success so far. :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
