I was sleeved 6/28. I have had a white Russian on select occasions since surgery. I was 3 months out before I had my first one. I have never finished an entire drink, and I have never gotten sick.

I have a glass of wine once in a while and it doesn't bother me but I have a sleeve of steel I think. I've tried other things and they don't bother me either but I had a bad reaction with a margarita, but I think that was because I was eating and drinking it at the same time.

I drink whine and liquor... I was told to avoid carbonation after surgery (the fizz can expand your pouch) I usually cannot have more than a glass at a time... Im 4 1/2 months out!

Do you feel you get drunk faster but for a shorter period of time? That's what my doctor said would happen.

I am about 13 weeks out maybe...I've lost count (Aug 23rd first surgery). I have wine on occasion. I can drink much less than I used to, much slower as well, but I don't get toasted easier as many say they do. I don't drink champagne right now because of bubbles...have to wait six months, and I don't drink hard liquor. I don't drink anything fast so I suppose part of my not getting drunk is how long it takes to drink anything.

Halloween night I probably had three glasses of wine total...maybe less, (we had a huge party at our house and I kept losing my glass LOL) but I certainly never got tipsy at all.

I used to enjoy several cocktails a week before the sleeve. I thought I would mount the loss of Happy Hours in my life. I do drink occasionally, usually a gin and tonic w/lime or chardonnay. I never have more than one-1 12 drinks...sometimes I don't even finish one drink. I simply can't drink more!

I have had wine, but don't think that I really felt the effects any faster. Then again it may be that I don't drink nearly as much as I did before. Its acidic and the enjoyment only lasts just so long. I've also had light cranberry juice with vodka with no problems.

One thing that I have noticed is that my keytones are much lower if I drink something. I guess that if you drank enough it would throw you completely out of ketosis.

depends on what you drink.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
