Nut 2: He Was Surprised

Recommended Posts

So, NUT 1 was the beginning. He didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. So I guess i officially started dieting here on Friday, 5-October. My official NUT 1 weight was 290, and NUT 2 was 280. He was surprised. Surprised? Yes, he went on to tell me he had never seen anyone lose 10# in their first month. I'm not surprised. I told him before, losing weight is easy. The hard part is keeping it off.

Is 10# really that unusual?

I think it depends. Normally when I eat well I lose fast (more you weigh the faster it comes off I've heard). However in my 4 months pre-surgery I've only lost 6 lbs. Slowest ever for me.

So yes, you are doing fantastic!

I think 10 pounds is fantastic! I can easily lose 10 pounds..............pre-op was 9 pounds. Maybe he wanted to cheer you on and keep you motivated. Regardless you are on your way!!

He actually seemed a a little concerned that I was "hitting it too hard." Like because I was being so strict, I was more likely to fail. I just told him I was sand-bagging for Thanksgiving!

Is this pre-sleeve? Or post sleeve? By 10# do you mean 10 percent? Because my doctor said that in the first month 25 pounds was the average post sleeve.

Officially, for surgery, I have to loose 10 percent of my excess body weight. For me, that is 14 pounds and that will be in my two week shake only preop diet. We were told that from now to surgery we could not gain any weight. That is hard right now because food and I are having a serious farewell party!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
