If you're talking about the stomach itself, mine only staples. If you're talking about the incisions, mine sutures inside and glues outside.

Dr. Aceves in Mexico was my doctor, and he puts in 3 rows of staples in the stomach and sutures the stomach as well. It must work well - he has a very, very low rate of leaks, if any at all (I don't know of any).

Yes, I meant the actual stomach. I should have been more specific. Thanks for replies.

To those who answered with "mine doesn't" etc, can you tell me who your dr is please? I'm looking into either dr Ponce or dr. Garcia at this point, do any of them do both? I really woudl like the added step.

I will be with dr Garcia next month and I am almost 100% certain he does the staples and then sutures over that. I spoke with alma his coordinator. She also said he uses titanium staples (the standard).

I don't think you could go wrong with him! Good luck in your decision ;)

Oh, good to know! I'm going to be giving alma call soon, myself. Does she have a fb page like some do, or a website?. There re so many more people going w Garcia now, than a few months ago when I was on the boards. (Rock on)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
