Pre Op Diet Cheating........anyone?

Recommended Posts

Don't cheat you guys!!! This is a beginning of a whole new life. Eating poorly is why we are all on this page! Seriously it's not worth it. food has been our crutch for our whole lives. Kick that crutch to the side and start working on your "head". I know some of you will not agree with me and that's okay. I'm 7 weeks out from surgery 30lbs down and I struggle everyday. I've learned that my eating came from emotional eating. I decided this week to go to a counselor to deal with some old demons and the things that I hid behind by eating. I am doing really well in so many ways now. Food is really not my issue anymore it's all the hurt that is resurfacing that I have not dealt with in my life. I'm proud of myself for not cheating. All the crap I use to eat makes me nauseous to even smell or look at. My main goal is to succeed and to love me FIRST again! I wish you all lots of luck!

Sadly I did cheat on mine.... I was good the first week but i cheated the most when i was supposed to be on Clear Liquids (smart right?) I ate countless bags of chips, nuggets and fries from McDonald, giant bacon burger and fries from jack in the box, brownies, and I drank one large sprite from jack in the box. Oh & a baked potato from Jason's deli the afternoon before my surgery my "last meal". I felt extremely bad & thought they were going to have to cancel the surgery but thankfully I was still able to have mine.Perhaps because I'm 23 and haven't really done too much damage to my liver even tho i drank like a fish (alcohol). I definitely had no self control and would advise no one to do what i did. Trust tho i won't be making that same mistake post op! I like my life lol

If my surgeon opens me up and finds out my liver did not shrink enough..he will close me back up and cancel the surgery...I cannot take that chance......been waiting way too long for this to happen...been so faithful it is unbelievable...Slim Fast shakes 4 times a day and Water..that is it.....have not taken a bite of anything in 12 days......

I envy all of you who get to drink broth and eat a meal daily .......<img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Wow slim fast? That has tons of sugar and not much Protein. Do u add Protein to it? Our shakes have to be 3 a day, less than 3g of sugar and 20-30g of protein. I got my shakes at costco. They are called Premier Protein, 30g of protein and 1g sugar....or maybe 2. Anywho they keep me full. broth must be fat free and can have sugar free Popsicles and Jello. I haven't got Popsicles yet but I will tonight. Today is only day 2 for me and I woke up feeling 10 pounds lighter lol

Awww man :-( well, we can do this. Eating is just in our mind, our body doesn't require it as long as we hv this Protein. :-)

I somewhat cheated... Went to Sizzlers with my Hubby and ordered the Grilled chicken with steamed broccoli and drank Water.

It was only 300 calories... The smartest choice on the menu. Since I am allowed 800 calories daily I made sure not to go over.

I was ordered to a liquid diet 4 shakes, sugar free Jello or popsicles... So I guess that I did cheat :/

But today I will be on my best behavior O:-)< PROMISE!!!

SURGERY IS SCHEDULED FOR NOV 12TH :)

I am on Day 4 and haven't cheated. I'm already sick of Protein Shakes and need to start drinking more of them. I am allowed to have broth and that has been really helping. I also do different flavors of Crystal Light and different flavors of Jello which helps too. Also, I do chew sugar free gum if I need to get rid of the Protein taste and that keeps me busy and distracts from being hungry. :) can't wait to be done with this part.

I copied this from a post I wrote about 4 days into the liquid diet. I hope it is helpful. I can say that a liquid diet after the sleeve is so much easier than the pre-op diet. This is the hard part--help (your sleeve) is on the way if you can tough it out a little bit longer.

I am pretty sure we would all agree that....... liquid DIET SUCKS! Not just sucks a little bit but really really really sucks. So if you are all whiny and angry and down and thinking about driving up to a window for a heart attack in a sack....don't think there is anything wrong with you. If there is anyone out there who can say that the liquid diet was a breeze then they most likely wouldn't need surgery.

The good news....it starts getting easier about day 3. Somewhere along day 3 you go into ketosis if you are on a high protein/low carb diet. This acts as a natural appetite suppressant. If I had to do 14 days of day 1 or 2 I would never make it. I am on day 4 and it was doable today. Not fun, not pleasant, but doable. To be honest, however, I have been an over-sensitive,emotional wreck for the past 3 days. If you are reading this on the first few days of your pre-op diet you are probably overly sensitive, tired, shaky, have a headache, and are absolutely starving. The entire world is probably ticking you off and you could come through the computer and slap someone that says "if you can't do the pre-op how are you going to do the post-op?" I caved and had a boiled chicken breast and asparagus on the first night, then a boiled chicken tender on day 2 and 3. Today I did ok. If you do cheat, make it a smart one. Don't cheat with carbs or you will kill the ketosis benefit. Good luck. My Nut. swears it is easier after the sleeve.

Oh yeah--I am down 10 pounds in 4 days.

Probably the best thing you can do for yourself right now--and for your family too if you are as short-tempered as I was.

Good luck on your sleeve!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
