Vitamins Immediately?

Recommended Posts

Do you start Vitamins immediately when you get home from the hospital? I came home yesterday and feel pretty yucky so have been focusing on trying to get Water in before worrying about vitamins....

My NUT says no Vitamins the first two weeks. Focus is on hydration. She says your stomach needs to heal a lot more than your body needs vitamins for two weeks.

My surgeon's team told me not to worry about Vitamins for a couple of weeks to just work on getting in fluids and some Protein. :)

Indeed. Mine had me start chewables right after surgery. Don't tell my surgeon, but I keep forgetting them! I'm going to have to get in a routine to remember 3 Calcium, 1 multi, 2 actigal, & 1 antacid (can't remember the name). I'm not really used to taking medicine other then my 1 a day blood pressure.

I've decided to treat my Vitamins as a snack. 4 chewable Calcium w/vit. D, one multi Vitamin plus a Vit. B sublingual. I put them in a baggy and during the day when i feel the need to chew, they're right there! (I'm only on 1st week puree).today was the first day I got all my Protein and my vitamins in in days! Hey, they're not chocolates but they are sweet!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
