Vs And Ds In Mexico

Recommended Posts

Apparently, I'm not clear. I'm not asking if someone had the VS and then had a revision to a DS. I'm asking if anyone had both at the same time, in Mexico.

I guess it isn't safe to assume someone on a VS forum might have also had the DS too just because the forum isn't called "...and DS."

Thanks for making a newbie feel at home.

I don't understand. Those are two completely different sugical procedures. One would have the VSG and if it didn't work, after a period of time revison surgery could be done. One example is the DS. You only have one stomach. How could someone have both, at the same time?

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) Revision Surgery

printer.gifprinter-friendly version

Although Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) is effective for many patients, some do not lose adequate weight, therefore revision weight loss surgery may be needed to cause additional weight loss. Failure after Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy may be caused by a couple of different factors.

  • If a stomach has been stretched, re-sleeving of the stomach may be a sufficient revision procedure.
  • Other individuals may require the addition of metabolic and malabsorptive aspects to compliment Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Procedures such as the Duodenal Switch and Ileal Transposition may be appropriate.

Most revision operations are higher risk than the first time a weight loss surgery procedure is performed. Revision of Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy to Duodenal Switch actually carries with it less risk than performing the Duodenal Switch in a single operation for the first time. This is possible due to the fact that Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy is one portion of the Duodenal Switch procedure. When converting to Duodenal Switch from Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, a significant piece of the operation has already been performed. This results in a smaller surgical procedure than performing the Duodenal Switch all at once.

Oh goodie, I'll get to explain something to you. A DS includes the VSG. But a VSG doesn't necessarily include the DS.

Someone that has the VSG can later get a revision to a DS.

I didn't read all of your post because i wasn't asking for a definition of the surgeries - but i do appreciate you taking the time to send it. Maybe it will help someone else that doesn't know.

We understand very well what a DS is, what you said is you wanted to know if someone had a VSG and a DS at the same time. Since you know so much about it you should know that the DS itself includes the VSG component, therefore someone either has a DS, or they have a VSG, they do not have "both", it's implied that the VSG is included in the DS as that is what the procedure is. You never hear someone say "I had a VSG and a DS on March 15". No, if they previously had a VSG then they had a revision to a DS. Not, as you stated "I'm asking if anyone had both at the same time, in Mexico."

You're very condescending and it's really not warranted.

Wow, thank you so much for explaining that to me. I think I just fed a troll. Jumping out of this one. Won't touch one of your posts ever again.

Thanks again. i'm not a troll. I'm not apologizing for anything. I was looking for information and the only people that replied (so far) think I don't know what I'm talking about and want me to go to a different website for information.

It's offensive to a newbie. Not welcoming at all. How would you expect someone to react to your "attacks"?

Yup, I've been put in my place - I'll go elsewhere to find support. Apparently, newbies can't ask questions? or, I just didn't do it the way you expected. I'm not sure. I was looking for support and got beat up.

Good luck to you where ever you are in your WL journey's and I hope you're successful.

No it's that when we try to help you, you attack back and say we don't know what we're talking about. We tell you that what you're asking about is a revision to a DS, and you say no, I'm not asking about a revision to a DS, i'm asking about someone having the VSG and the DS at the same time. We state that it's not possible to have both at the same time, and then you say oh goodie I get to explain to you what the surgery is. If you don't understand what's wrong with this picture I don't know what to say to you. You don't seem to be grasping the basics.

You only have one stomach.

If you sleeve it, it's sleeved. If you go home and come back in a month and convert it to a DS, you now have a DS. You do not have a VSG and a DS.

If you have a whole stomach that has no sleeve, and you decide to get the DS, then you still have a DS. You do not ever get the VSG and the DS "at the same time" That's why we're not understanding you. If you're looking for someone who has "both at the same time", you are probably referring to someone having a virgin DS (not a revision, someone who has never had a sleeve). In that case, that person would not be posting at a forum about vertical sleeves, because that's not the procedure they'd have.

I hope that clears things up.

Diana, hazlesmrf has tried so hard to explain but you continue to sound off very arrogantly. I really think shes right in directing you to obesityhelp. Im pretty certain that you will find something there. But can I add that your approach is not the nicest and may not be welcome there either if you continue to have such a know it all attitude. Good luck. Really.

ObesityHelp deals with WLS in all its varieties. They don't have an app but they do have a mobile site. This site is VGS. The only "combo" I usually see on here is lapbands converting to VGS. I started off on ObesityHelp and came here b/c I decided on the sleeve. I hope you find the data and feedback you're looking for! WLS is a big deal and gathering info and experiences helps in the decision making process.

And I just read over this again, you won't get a DS with a decent surgeon when your BMi is so low, OP. I've got a BMI of 48 and still don't weigh enough for the switch.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
