Who's Had Their Sleeve The Longest Here?

Recommended Posts

I just got sleeved on the 3rd and just wondering how I will feel, say 3-5 years from now? Is the weight still off? Do you feel 'normal' after so long? Please share your experiences with me. I'd love to hear how everyone's doing.

I'm 3 years out. I was almost 300 lbs before surgery and I'm between 190-200lbs now. I've been struggling with these pesky 10 lbs. I want to go down to 150 ... but I've been slacking off. But I haven't gained any weight back which is wonderful. The good thing about this surgery is that when you want to lose weight you can and it comes off pretty fast.

Just last week I am 2 years post-op and much like Kikiphiasmom I've lost a significant amount of weight but not at goal. It is interesting that you ask about feeling normal. That is one thing that I feel all the time and I love it. I went from a tight 3X on top and a tight 22 on bottom to a size L on top and a size 12 (sometimes 10 but 12's always fit) on bottom. So basically I'm the size of the "average" American woman and it's wonderful. I was never meant to be a skinny-minnie and the last time I weighed 120lbs I was probably 11 years old. It's so nice to walk into a closet full of clothing that fits me and I feel great in. No more stuffed sausage feeling that I used to have wearing my tight old clothes.

But having the sleeve has given me the ability to lose a big chunk of weight and keep it off. I also struggle within a +10/-10lb range and right now I'm about 7-10 lbs higher than my lowest weight I hit this spring, so I'm working on being more consistent with my eating to get that back off.

I feel 100% normal about my eating as it is very routine for me now. I still weigh and measure my food sometimes just to track it or keep in check. I eat betwen 1,000-1,500 calories a day and exercise 3-5 days a week. And I definitely could go lower (weight-wise) but it would require me to consume >800 calories a day or workout at LOT more and much more intensely than I do now.

So basically I've been coasting along in maintenance mode for about the last year. I tell all newbies to take full-advantage of the honeymoon period because it disappears rapidly and then it's a lot harder to work your sleeve for weight loss.

Would I do it all again? 100% YES! I love my sleeve!

I had the lapband in 2009 started at 251 lost about 74 I was sooo happy. But then it slipped so I had to have it corrected. Then it slipped again so doctor removed it and gave me the sleeve bit I'm so sad because I only lost 20 lbs and its all coming back..

a slipped band puts you into starvation nothing goes down i lost 24 pound in a month with a slipped band. the sleeve is different from what people say a lot of band to sleevers have very slow weight loss or put some back on. but it will balance out your body would have been in shock and is probably storing as much as it can as a survival mechanism in case you starve it again. my advice is follow your diet and give it time take away your scales and start to measure your self x best of luck with it x

Please clarify... Your total weight loss since having your vertical sleeve surgery September 2011 is 20 pounds? What does your doctor and/or nutritionist say? I'ld be concerned about underlying health issues if you have followed your diet plans, etc.! This doesn't sound right to me! Even if your sleeve was done Sept. 2012, that's only 5 weeks. But gaining it back-again, please call your doctor today, something can't be right! Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
