Recommended Posts

Ok so after the first of the year I may have turn purchase insurance thru my work... my question is... if I was to get private insurance effective January 1st.. can I start right away or is there a waiting periods? Anyone have experience with this. I'm not even forsure if it'll be anthem I just know they are looking into it.

I used anthem. I had no waiting period. All I had to do was have my fam dr fill out a paper saying that I've tried several diets and write down several years of my weight gans/losses. Once I decided, the only waiting I had was the time it took to complete my visits to wls seminar, surgeon visit, NUT visit and psych eval. After that, we scheduled my surgery.

My employer changes ins providers every couple of years. I think I was back with them for about 9-10 months when I did it

You should be fully covered on the first day that you are insured by them. As soon as you get your card, have your surgeons office call them to get approval started, that should help you get all the limits/restrictions and copays figured out

Actually, it's just like car ins. If you pay your premium today, then have an accident on the way home from dropping off the check, you are covered. Health ins is the same way. Once you have that card, you are covered.

Good luck

Yes, make sure weight loss treatment isn't an exclusion!! I was crushed when I found out Anthem would not pay for ANYTHING weight loss due to it being an exclusion on my policy. :(

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
