2 Week Pre-Op Diet - I Call Bullsh**t

Recommended Posts

So I started my 2 week pre-op diet yesterday and we had the nutrition class on Tuesday p.m. Well we got this booklet and a page devoted to our pre-op diet where on top it says, and I quote, "800 calorie liquid diet."

I am allowed the 3 Ru-Tein Protein shakes with 8 oz skim milk, 4 cups of lettuce with 2 Tblsp of a light dressing, 1 light yogurt, 2 cups of chicken or beef broth, and 2 jellos.

After entering everything into my diet section of MyFitnessPal - it says I'm consuming ONLY 702 calories - Not 800.

That's a big deal when they are bringing you down so low!!! :)

So I call Bullshit!

If I get too hungry on any given day I'm just going to add a little more of the lettuce or the chicken broth!:)

Good Luck to everyone else out there.

P.S. - even just consuming 702 calories yesterday - wasn't that bad. I'm holding off my first shake until I'm actually hungry and I'm spacing out what I can have throughout the day.

I'd kill for some lettuce at this point. 5 Optifast shakes a day. Yuck!

That's how my pre-op diet was as well. I was allowed no foods that I had to chew. I even had to strain yogurt to get the fruit chunks out. It was worth it though, that is the important thing to remember! I would do the two week pre-op diet all over again a million times to go from a size 24 to a size 8!!

Isis this diet for 4 MONTHS!!!

That right, no food the entire time. shakes & sometimes broth if I wanted something savory or warm.

I think that's why I never complained while on liquids pre / post sleeve.

I only have a one week pre op diet and it goes like this sugar free Jello or Popsicles, broth, tea or coffee with only artificial sweetener, sugar free drinks like crystal light, sugar free fitness Water like propel. Yeah, that's it. I'm finished day 2 and spent half the day with a screaming headache and I couldn't think straight. My brain is starving! but nothing will stop me, I'm determined! I even cooked for my family tonight. This is a lesson in self control, and I am rising to the challenge!

I use Dr. Cribbins in Plano,Tx. as far as pre-op I can't have any meat, but at least I'm not starving. I can have oatmeal..healthy choice Soups, Jello, applesauce, low fat cottage cheese, fruit, salad with low fat dressing, Protein Shakes and that sort of thing. When I went for my pre-op tests today I mentioned that my friend (she used different dr.) had to drink only Protein shakes for 2-3 weeks pre-op and the nurse said Dr. Cribbins didn't want to starve his patients pre-op he just wanted to get them use to eating less and introduce them to the shakes, because after surgery I wouldn't get to eat regular food for awhile. i've been so happy with him so far and nothing but good comments about him that I can find.

It's weird that the pre op diet varies so much! My surgeon requires a skim milk diet 2-4 weeks before surgery. Skim milk 3 times a day. That's it! (And water.) I'm not looking forward to it.

I know how lucky I am...I had NO pre-op diet! It's absolutely NUTS how varied doctors are on this subject. smh

My pre op diet is 1 day of liquids and a bowel cleanse. When I told my Dr that I heard varied pre op diets such as a 2 week liquid diet first he joked that I've been reading too much on the internet lol. Then he said the purpose of that is to shrink the liver but he would only suggest that in patients who are extremely large. He didn't really feel it was necessary in all cases. Then he joked again saying that a 2 week diet is only going to make me cranky for 2 weeks...lmao. I love my Dr.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
