I have no parents my best friend say No I'm lazy and confessed. But she is 5'5 over 400 lbs and 40 yrs old. She set in her ways. Reading post it looks like u will loose a few friends. And family will be supportive. Just be honest and give them all the facts about the procedure. Good luck my friend.

Maybe get your toes wet by bringing up the subject see how they react. If they ask and your not comfortable telling them tell them u were looking into it and doing research. Just remember u are doing this for u and dont need negitivity. Just my opinion

If its something you want to tell everyone about because you are proud of yourself for going through this journey, then tell everyone. There are those who are going to support your decision and those who will scowl you for it. Remember, this is your life and what YOU want. If you want to keep the matter private, then that is also, your decision. When you get all slim and trim, and people ask how you lost all your weight, tell through hard work, pain, and dedication. This journey is a hard one and there will be plenty of times where you need support and times where you dont need the critism or everyone judging you for YOUR DECISION. Personally, I didnt want to tell everyone, because it has been a long process for me and I want to keep all aspects of my journey positive. I am not lying to people who ask, just not telling them the whole truth. No harm in that. I kinda want the shock effect too when I come out of my cave ( I have been a hermit since surgey 10/1). I told my mother, brother, and sister, in case there were decisions that needed to be made in case of complications...a few close friends and a select few coworkers that I felt comfortable with and trusted. You have to pick and choose who should know and who to keep out of the loop. Your family will worry no matter what you do. You have to educate them and tell them how much you want/need this. They will understand

Hi, if you are doing the surgery you are doing a great thing,, i had my surgery 11/22/2011 and I only told my kids my dad and one of my best friends 2 weeks before the surgery, my oldest son was not happy but is my life and one of the best things i have done for me..for everyone else I told them i went on a Protein diet since I had to do the pre surgery diet no one noticed.. i took a week vacation came back with 25 pounds less...but i rocked my sleeve and everyone things im still on the diet but I eat much more now...and evrything.

so do it people sometimes are a bit selfish and dont want to loose their eating buddies.

Good luck you wont regret it..just give time since at the beginnig you wont eat at all much, but you are not hungry so who cares.

Best thing that I did for myself :)

I think fear of the unknown is why the negative feedback or reactions to WLS. My parents know how I've struggled since puberty with my weight. I've lost and regained so many times that I was at the point of giving up trying! I can lose weight. I can't make goal and I can't keep it off! My mom came to NY from Florida to help me while I recover-she's been wonderful-she never had a weight problem so it's hard for her to 'get' me, but my dad struggles. She has him taking Protein Shakes already, watch out dad-mom may want you to get the sleeve next! Best decision of my life, I'm sure! I look forward to continued healing and know that a year from now I'll be fit and trim and soooo much more active and lively!

I did not tell anyone yet. Only my husband knows I was sleeved on 8/31. I am a very slow loser and everyone thinks I am on a diet again. I think it is a personal decision. I just didn't want the negativity and worry.

Well my step mom had it done and that is what pushed me to have it done. I wasn't going to tell many people but of course my mom ran her mouth and everyone knows. I hope I don't get the negative comments once I have my surgery nov. 6th. I don't want people saying I took the easy way out or anything. If they think that then they are obviously misinformed because it is just a tool and we have to do the hard work to be successful.

You don't have to tell anyone. I just told my sisters and I am not telling my mom until a few days before so she doesn't worry too much. As for anyone else I am going to say I made some big changes and I don't eat carbs or sugar anymore. Neither of those are lies. It is your body and you are choosing to change and get healthy. The sleeve is only a tool to help you get there. Good luck and don't worry about the telling part. Focus on the journey ahead.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
