Help With Meals 6 Weeks Out

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks out, released to eat real food. I do not want to drink Protein Shakes unless I have too. I could use some meal ideas. I understand Protein first, then vegs. I do well with eggs, chili, Beans, chicken, lunch meat, canned fruit, and a little baked potato, But each time I venture outside of this I have awful burping and nausea. tonight I had a couple bites of spagettie- and I still feel sick. Any ideas?

I can't do spicy food and ( I discovered tonight that beef doesn't work). I have read it all along and now I'm going to repeat it. .... Everything gets better with time!

How does fish do for you? Have you tried flounder, haddock or talapia?

Or seafood? How about shrimp, crab or lobster (stay away from oysters and clams -- too tough to chew into small bits at this point, I think).

Piece of ham slice, ground chicken burger or turkey burger. Soups? I am 3 weeks out and trying just about anything that offers a lot of Protein in a small serving.

When do you next see your doctor? I would be letting him know that nausea is a problem. Are you taking anything for stomach acid or maybe you need something for it... hope it gets better for you.

I am 7 wks post op - I eat alot of Halibut, Tilapia, chicken, and eggs. I have tried some recipes from worldaccoringtoeggface - I haven't found anything that I love yet. Eating for me still seems like a chore and I have to remember to eat. I am no hunger at all, which is a good thing!

I am also looking for some ideas - I have a real problem controlling my carbs.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
