When Should I Expect To Return To School Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm a college student how long should I expect to be out for. Surgery is the 30th and not sure how long I should tell my professors that I will be out for.

Congrats! I am also a college student and it is really dependent on how you feel and if your professors will work with you. I had to withdraw from my classes, because mentally I just couldn't do it with the calorie requirements, and my body is still healing. I had online classes but physically I knew that I did not need to sit at my computer for to long to prevent blood clots, if my classes were on campus, I probably would have tried to stick it out, then I would have had the added benefit of walking.

I've been wondering this too. Hoping that getting sleeved between semesters leaves me enough time to heal, but if something happens and I can't do it until later, then ill have to wait until summer because I can't do it in the middle of a semester. I'm guessing it'll be harder to go back to school then work because you have to actually retain this info!

I work and go to school. I got 4 day extensions. Factor a week.

It depends when your dr. clears you. I had mine on Oct.4th and my 3 week post op appt. isn't until the Oct. 30th! But my dr. has me wait the 3 weeks. Everyone is diffiferent, although I KNOW I would not have been able to be back in ONE week! Good luck!!!

Just from researching; everyone is different. Some people bounce back are home in 24 hours, don't ever use pain meds and are fully functional withing days...others struggle more spend a few days in the hospital and it takes them weeks to feel whole again. Some of this depends on bmi, age and previous physical activity and some of it has no baring what so ever! So you could be fine after a week or you could need a lot more time. If I were you...I would tell your professors about your surgery and ask for a week baring complications and then the door is open of there are! :) good luck!!!!!

Why did you choose to do surgery in the middle of a semester? Crazy lady lol!!! Winter break is so close and your given a good three weeks to relax and heal :) but like many will say, healing time is different for everyone. I hope your recovery is quick :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
