Does anyone else feel like a nutcase worrying about leaks ? I don't dwell on it by any means but it's a pretty scary fear that's out there . I know i will listen carefully to my body and get anything out of the ordinary checked out ASAP . I just can't wait to get to a point where the chances decrease a lot ! :) best of luck to everyone

I was pretty paranoid for the first eight weeks or so. I imagined every pinch or pull to be the sign of a leak. For the most part I kept these fears to myself, so they weren't that consuming, but they were on my mind. After I got beyond that first six weeks I was thinking about it significantly less, and after eight weeks hardly at all. I think it's pretty normal in the early weeks since that is when the chance of a leak is greatest.

Can leaks occur later than 6 weeks? What would cause a leak, say, 6 months post-op?

I really don't know , I would hope that by 6 months we are fully healed , I don't want to have to worry about a leak that far out

What are the Symptoms of a leak?! Been thinking about leaks All day!!

Rapid heart rate , fever , chills , pain in the abdomen that worsens rather than improves , shortness of breath

I'd say that anything that seems off needs to be checked out , best to air on the side of caution at this point

I've heard that a leak can occur at any time, even years down the road, but it's extremely unlikely after the first six weeks. There is a girl on here whose leak wasn't diagnosed until she was about three months post op so getting beyond the six weeks isn't a guarantee, but your chances are significantly less beyond that point.

You are not alone! I am doing everything right because ive been scared straight! From all that ive read here, it seems like the six week mark is somewhat of a relief. Im curious as to what causes leaks beyond this point. Perhaps ulcers?

I was a freak worrying about both leaks and clots. The blood clot worry went away after a few weeks. But almost 10 weeks post op i still think about leaks. Every little ache or anything gets my mind working. Definitely not as worried as i was the first 6 weeks. I follow the rules pretty tight, and i chew everything to applesauce consistency.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
