I'm just a few days till my pre op diet starts and I feel like I should eat something crazy. like a platter of spaghetti or a huge steal did anyone do this

I did and all it did was make me feel worse about myself- don't do it get the jump start on your weightloss cause after you heal you can eat anything u want if u choose to. Hopefully you won't tho and will have learned to love healthy foods and see food as just fuel for your body:)

I had a few meals that I knew I wouldnt have in a long time before I started my preop diet. Now I didnt pig out or anything, but I had some gnocci one night, seafood another night, steak another night, and Mexican. I tried to eat healthy portions so as not to sabbotage my wl but at the same time enjoy those foods that I knew I wouldnt be eating again for a very long time. I ate these for dinner while being very strict for Breakfast and lunch.< /p>

Eat up! Just don't kill the diet completely. I am almost a week postop and glad I ate my favs. I realized that some things just didn't taste as good as they once did. You can't eat for a bit enjoy and push the plate when you are full.

I too ate some big my favorite things that I knew I would be able to have for a while, like creamy steak enchiladas.... Yum!! Oh, and the Yummy Monte Cristo from Cheddars, double yum! But on both of them, I only ate half (I started sharing my meals with my husband or son early on) and on both of the meals, I have yet to eat them since surgery, not quite 3 months ago. If you really want something, just be smart about it

I gave myself the 4 days before surgery (no pre-op diet for me) to eat whatever I wanted to. I had Mexican, chicken fried steak, a night at Texas de Brazil and donuts. Oddly enough, it wasn't as GREAT as I thought it'd be and I'm VERY glad I allowed myself to indulge!

I needed those few "food Funerals" and the peace of mind they gave me. Having said that, everyone's journey is different and you have to listen to your gut. (<---HA!!)

My favorite meal is Thanksgiving and I made an entire thanksgiving dinner on the night before I started my preop diet. It was a very special night for me and my family and I have no regrets having done it. :)

I am a little over 4 mos postop and down 63#. I still love Thanksgiving and I'm looking forward to it this year. My plate will be smaller, and I'll be full a lot faster, but I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying a 'last meal' before surgery.

For me, it wasn't sad or based on indulgence. It was an acknowledgment of the choice I was making and it gave me a wonderful sense of closure. I think as long as you analyze why (and what) you want to eat as that meal and approach it with a firm understanding that you will look and feel much differently about food after surgery, you'll be fine.

I also had some "food funerals" but I didn't get to the point of making myself sick from eating too much. My family indulged me in an early "bonus" Thanksgiving dinner using all of my mom's recipes. I also went on a date with my husband and had steak and lobster at the best steakhouse in town. It was worth it. It helped me to prepare for the pre-op liquid diet; I am day four on liquids! It is a personal choice as to whether you want to indulge a little. For me, it helped to mentally prepare me for the transition. Surgery on Wednesday October 24th....

I have no idea what "gnocci" is, but I was eating steak, seafood and Mexican (fajitas) within 2 months of surgery. You won't be too long without those good foods.

Gnocchi is an Italian Pasta dish. I had it for first time when visiting Italy in 2011. Since it is a Pasta, I would not eat it now because it is pure Carb load. Most of the time Gnocchi has sauces on it ( think raviolis), but usually no Protein and sometimes some cheeses.

Gnocchi is a "potato dumpling." Olive Garden has a chicken and gnocchi Soup that is pretty good. Not the best nutritional meal, but at least there's some Protein.< /p>

My food funeral last July made me physically sick... Not what I imagined. Glad to be on the road to Wholeness now.

food funeral, i like that :) i never had one pre op, but am OK about it. I am so glad to be done with the emotional roller coasters that come from sugars, salts and processed foods in general. Lately, I have been very neutral / more or less positive and I think that comes from eating whole foods keeping insulin and hormones at a balanced level.

I never had a food funeral because by the time I started the approval process, I learned a was Pre-diabetic. I knew my carb. cravings were out of control-coffee cake every day, fast food for lunch (but no fries! I was trying!) unhealthy quick meals for family dinner and desert every night! I was like, I ate it all-and so fast that I barely remember eating it. If, and when, I eat those foods again, I'll be in control- not the food controlling me! Can't wait to feel the power!

I sure did indulge..for about 3 weeks i didnt pay much attention to what i ate. Not cool. The last couple days before i started my liquid diet last thursday were especially offensive hahaa! My husband had ordered me david venable's (from qvc) cookbook and it showed up early last week. I wanted to make something from it so tuesday i decided on garlic mashed potato topped onion meatloaf with gravy and mac & cheese topped with crisp bacon. Then one of our daughter's bday was wed so i had mcd's at lunch, my last meal was pizza from our fave place plus a "mummy twinkie" for dessert. Thats what she chose instead of cake. Whew way too much food crammed into one day.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
