I still have one more nut appointment before the big insurance "ok" and I've met with my surgeon once to discuss which procedure I was having done. After the insurance goes through (I hope I hope I hope) I set up a PACE appointment to set a surgery date, get labwork, and get all my final questions answered but it just occurred to me that so far in this 6 month process there has been no discussion of a goal weight. When did you set your goals? I'm 25, 5'4", and weigh 275ish. What would be an appropriate goal? Thanks for your time!

You have to pick something you are comfortable with. I also think that you have to pick something that is realistic and attainable. Not saying you can't be 105lbs, but whether that is actually healthy for your body and whether you can realistically get there is another question. When I set a goal, all I said is that I would like to be a normal BMI. For me, it was 140lbs which gave me a BMI of 24.9, just within normal (I am 5'3"). I actually never thought I would get there, I didn't want to be disappointed. But now I am actually below my goal and couldn't be happier. Talk to your surgeon, they usually have a pretty good idea of where you might want to end up based on your height and build. Good Luck!!

Thanks! I have no desire to be "skinny." I want to be in a normal BMI. If I lose more that's a bonus :) Thank you!

I had never had a goal in the beginning. My surgeon and I never discussed it until around 6 months post op. Then she told me that I shouldn't lose over 10 lbs more. Then I set my own goal weight at 130 lbs and had to increase it to 140 lbs since I'm big boned. Now my body is not wanting to get below 144 lbs. So my personal goal is 140 lbs and my body is saying it's happy where it's at. Either way, I love my sleeve. I like taking it one day at a time and trust that if I eat healthy (which is really hard at times) my body knows when to stop. Such a different way of thinking for me.

I'm excited to think that way. Right now I can eat healthy but it takes an ungodly amount to feel full no matter how slow I eat. I'm anxious to know four ounces is all I'll need to feel that way. Thanks for responding!

I am about 14 months post-op.

My stats were about what you are at pre-op and I was 27 when I was sleeved. I set my goal at 175lbs and made it under. I was scared of loose skin and scared of getting too thin and regain. (why I chose a higher goal) I have maintained my weight of 167-172 for the past 6 months+ at 2000 cals a day. I have no deprivation feelings whatsoever. I am still in the overweight category but I don't care. I have no lose skin, no major hair loss, etc. I am healthy, curvy, a size 12 and medium tops usually. (preop I was a size 24 and 2x at least. I plan to start working out at the gym this month and maybe drop one more size. :-) and or 10 more pounds over the next year!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
