Recommended Posts

I know there are patients on here who have asthma, but what about other issues like heart disease, etc?

Heart disease, asthma and diabetes here. It's my primary motivation for this surgery. The diabetes makes everything else worse.

My comorbidity list was as long as my arm: pneumonia, asthma, sleep apnea, borderline diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, etc. I can't even remember all of them! I had to have a filter installed before surgery to prevent blood clots from traveling to my heart and lungs, and then removed afterwards. That filter saved my life because it caught several clots!

At almost 14 months out, every issue has resolved except the sleep apnea (major improvement) and the asthma. My EKG is fantastic, blood pressure is down, stamina is up and I feel like a whole different person! :)

Bingo!

Same here, but last Summer went into a fib for 4 months. So went from to strong a heart which was double the normal size to a weak heart now. Lab tests always have shown perfect health just have a bad heart. I even had open heart surgery at 31 where part of the heart muscle was cut out to weaken the heart. Docs said I would be lucky to make 3-4 years. I am now 45 so they don't know squat.

I don't have heart disease but it runs in my family on both sides. Very scary. I do have kidney disease + only 1 kidney which is my main reason for having this done. If I wind up needing a new kidney in the future I won't get it being obese. I want to do this now, while I'm somewhat young and healthy enough to lose the weight. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks to everyone for responding. Your stories are scary and heartening at the same time! I am not scheduled yet though we think it will be in December. I have hypertension and extreme shortness of breath that has not been diagnosed to my satisfaction yet. I wanted to see what other comorbidities are out there. Good Luck and continued success to us all!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
