Revision Surgery ......how Often Open?

Recommended Posts

Even though my lapband 7 years I was told that my Sleeve Surgery would be Revision Surgery......the

stomach needs be cut free from any adhesion due lapband, etc.

Question............How often do these Revision Surgeries have to be done 'Open'.........not Laprascopically?

Anybody here that went in for Laparoscopic Revision Sleeve Surgery and ended up with 'Open'

Surgery?

I haven't heard of it happening too often. I had the band for 10 years and my revision was done laproscopically.

I strongly recommend you obtain at lease a second opinion on your revision procedure. I have read about others on this site with regard to revision surgery and I don't recall anyone saying they would be required to pre approve an OPEN procedure instead of laprascopic for the revision. Your recovery time will be a lot longer after going through the OPEN procedure. Good luck!

Thanks guys..........just to clarify......had band removed 7

years ago...

Am headed to Mexico for my Sleeve and noted on a Docs website

that Revision surgeries are at higher risk of having to go

Open surgery.

Am just trying to get a real world feel of how often the Revision Sleeve Surgery turns into an Open surgery.

At 59 years Old................I don't NOT want Open surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
