Feeling horrible right now

Recommended Posts

So I joined Weight Watchers today. :hungry: I've done it before and had good results, just couldn't keep it off. Figured I'd join again, makes it easy to keep track of my food and Portion Control. I made the mistake of posting on one of the boards asking if anyone else is doing WW with the band and how they adapted the program because of the band. Holy crap was I jumped on! :pout: I was bashed right and left for taking the easy way out and what makes me think surgery was the answer and do I know how many people have DIED in WLS? I could not believe the bitterness and bitchiness these women were spewing at me. :yell: I've never seen a more judgemental, self-righteous group of women. I was in tears over some of their comments. So much for going there for support. :) I know I made the right choice for me, but man they still made me feel like a total loser and an idiot for choosing to get the band. Guess I'll just stay over here where people like me and don't think I'm evil. You guys don't think I'm evil, right? ;)

Awww Tracey I am so sorry they were nasty to you. People that say that WLS is the easy way out make me SO darn mad!!!;) IMHO the band is the courageous and smart way out. Why keep trying something over and over again that has been proven to fail? I think those comments are stemming from fear and jealousy. They are fearful of you actually losing the weight and keeping it off this time and jealous that they don't have the committment/finances to do it themselves. Don't let them get you down. We love you over here at LBT and will support you with or with out WW.

That's horrible, i'm so sorry to hear that. On the bright side it really makes me appreciate everyone here. I love the fact that so many people here are openminded about alot of things.

Some of us tried all the other options to lose weight. People think that we became FAT overnight, for some of us it was a long process. Although I myself have been fighting to lose weight for almost 20 yr. The only option left for me was Weight loss surgery. So, keep your head up & stay positive.

I think you need to do what is best for you. Poo-poo to people who think we took the easy way out. We have been through as much blood, sweat and tears as they have. And you know the old saying.....opinions are like a**holes.....everybody has them and they are probably pretty stinky.

So keep your chin up and remember we are here for you. ;) Big hug.

I can't believe WW would sanction a group like that!!! Aren't they also supposed to be built on the premise of support and empathy???? You made the right choice.

It's so sad that people can't just support each other in a common goal!

I HATE the "easy way out" line. I don't see what I did as any easier then a program that tells you what to eat and when, or delivers your meals to you all cooked.

We still have to make good food choices. We have to stop eating when we first feel satisfied.

I'm sorry to hear that they were so mean!!

I think they're just being parrots and repeating what they've heard Dr. Phil and Oprah say over and over and over....it's a shame that such famous people are so badly mis-informed.

I dont tend to get upset at stuff like that, I have a pretty thick skin. But I can understand why you were, that's awful.

But I would be thinking to myself " and how many times have you joined weight watchers?". Because you can guarantee that this is their 10th attempt and will be far from the last. OK, well I would actually SAY that, lol.

You are the smart one. Weight Watchers AND a lapband - nothing will stop you!

When you do WW do you find support from the group meetings or mainly because it makes you keep track of food eaten, Water drunk and amount of exercise. If it is the latter, then why not WW on-line? No self-righteous people and some pretty good tools to manage yourself.

They have a free trial right now for the on-line program,

Well, I think I will just quote my doctor on this one.... "There are very, very few people who lose a large amount of weight and keep it off for a lifetime." We, obviously are not those people or we wouldnt have come to the conclusion of WLS. I have the proper tool that will nearly guarantee me to not gain back all my weight plus some. That peace of mind is worth everything.

well i am a BIG believer in weight watchers and it worked for me just fine... but this is how my doctor put it, your doing a great job on weight watchers, but there is way to much room for error with it, things happen, plateaus, ect.. why spend anymore of of your youth being fat? I agree.. and doing weight watchers gave me alot of the nutritional education that i need to make this band really work!

Tell the group to go *blank* themselves... find a new group, thats much more understanding :grouphug:

NO SURGERY IS AN EASY WAY OUT!

Just think, you will have the last laugh!!! Like the other posts have stated they are only jealous and very narrowminded. I can imagined how you felt at the time, but don't waste anymore of your precious time thinking about those nasty people. You've made the right decision on being banded. :grouphug:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
