I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!

Recommended Posts

Kelly123,

Just breath. Stalls and small gains are typical if you weigh your self multiple times a week at different times of day. Pick one day a week at a set time. I went through the scale obsession my first couple of months, it can drive you mad. Also never move the scale keep it in one place, cause houses are never perfectly level and moving it can alter the results. Diet wise, bread is not your friend, weather you can eat it or not. Your tiny stomach spends more time breaking down the carbs and not working on the Protein. I don't think any other sleever will argue, you need to hit your protein goal. If you don't its not pleasant. Sounds like your eating what you want and not what you need (don't mean to sound mean) I found these protein bars made by Cliff are great they have them ranging from 15-30 grams of protein in a bar. I buy a variety because some days i can eat more than One Bar and some i can't.

definitely don't weigh at night.

the carbs would be a bit of a worry for me too

but I was sleeved 2 days before you and you are ahead of me by 5 pounds on loss and I think I am doing awesome.

I started out 10 pounds heavier but we are shooting for the same goal.

Its right about this time that I know a lot of people had a mini stall.

Hang in there. <3

I was sleeved 2 days after you and am so jealous you are chewing!!!!! I am on mushies/pureeds for 5 weeks!!!!!!! I was actually looking to see if anybody eats soft scrambled eggs 2 weeks out. I would love 2 ozs of scrambled eggs... And I weigh myself throughout the day and can be a lb higher at night. But I am still less in the morning and ahead of my reality goal. I hate shakes so getting my Protein in without carbs is nearly impossible for me. I figure that it is better to have a few more carbs if that is the only way i can stomach the Protein Powder. It will be a whole new world when I can eat solids... Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged!!!

I was sleeved on 9/26/12. I lost 29lbs between the pre-surgery diet and after surgery' date=' but today after work I noticed my pants were like seriously falling off me so I decided to hop on the scale to see where I was at and I actually gained 2lbs!! I am beside myself. I have been eating very healthy. Today for instance I ate soggy Special K Protein Cereal for Breakfast (low sugar), for a snack I had greek yogurt for lunch I ate half a turkey sandwich with only one piece of rye bread (one slice rye bread with turkey and swiss cheese on top sliced in half with lite mayo). For dinner I had chicken salad made with lite mayo on thin 100% whole wheat bread(thin bread, not normal bread), Am I eating too much?? What am I doing wrong? I have moved foward on my diet faster then I should of but these foods are not bothering me at all. So long as I take small bites and chew thoroughly I am fine. I could go back to eating mush which I think I am starting tomorrow, but what happens next week when I can start eating these foods?? Everything I ate today is "safe food" in my manual just for next week not this week. It's not like I am eating Cookies and ice cream and junk food. The reason I had this surgery was because even when I ate right it did nothing, and now after surgery even though I can only eat a few ounces of healthy food I'm gaining weight. Did I just go thru all this for nothing?? I wanted to be down to 250 by the end of this week and now I am back up to pushing 260...[/quote']

Kelly im going through the same thing but gained 6 pounds back at 6 weeks out, I'm also stuck in the 260s. I think I need to talk to my surgeon to see what's going on. Well I hope you start losing again nothing worse then feeling like this sleeve didn't help and failed, especially when it does seem to work for other ppl.

Wow, mushy food for 5 weeks. No, I'm able to move onto semi-solids next week, but they want me to eat blenderized meat this week and I can't. That to me is just disgusting. I don't mind mushing up my veggies or eating chicken salad or tuna salad tho or even mashing up a small piece of fish. I re-read my manual last night and they want me to cut down on my shakes and start trying to get my protein from food. I'm starting over today and totally regrouping. I am cutting out all unnecessary carbs. I don't know what you can and cannot do and I don't want to be the one to say go for it, but what I have learned is every doctor is different and every post op diet is different. Some move way faster than others and it seems like your's moves way slower than others.

Today I did much better, I weighed myself in the morning and I have only gained one pound. I had greek yogurt for Breakfast, half a Protein Shake for a snack then for lunch I had tuna mashed with lite mayo. For a snack I had another half of my Protein shake and for dinner I ate half a baked chicken breast. I do need to up my Water intake. I am only at about 30 oz. I already have tomorrow's meals planned out so I think I have myself started back on the right track and hopefully will be able to jump start my weight loss again! Thank you everyone for your words of encouragment! I will keep you all updated as to how I make out in the coming days!

I had the same problem. I was sleeved on 9/26 as well. I dropped 24 pounds in the first week and a half, but then then the last two days gained a couple pounds. I did see my doctor today for follow up and he said its entirely normal. I believe him of course, but its still a little heart breaking. I just started egg salad and refried Beans and such. I know I'm not getting as much Protein as I should but pretty close. Those damn shakes are just so hard to even look at any more though lol.

Well you asked for help but it doesn't sound like you want to hear it. Unless you seriously track your food you will have no idea how many protein/carb you are really consuming. I too think you shouldn't be having bread at all. Just Protein and veggies if you have room. Bread is your enemy at this point. Good Luck.

I'm going to throw my two cents in here...I think your "Well you asked for help but it doesn't sound like you want to hear it" was harsh, unkind, arrogant, and uncalled for. Where in the world did Kelly give off the vibe that she doesn't want to hear it? It sounded to me like she was talking it out.... Jeez..

Kelly, I would say the carbs are probably going to slow down or stall your weight loss. And it seems like to moved on to eating a full range of food very quickly. I think you have the right idea about going back to basics.

Although, take my words with a grain of salt. I haven't had surgery yet (next month!) but I've learned a lot from just reading everything I can here...

Don't fret, ups and downs are part of this crazy roller coaster. Everyone has given you great advice. I would actually count the crabs you're taking in. Sadly, 2 pieces of bread...even thin bread...sounds too much. I was maxed at 1 serving per day. Look at the cheese and mayo for hidden carbs as well. Plus both milk and yogurt have lactose...a carb! If you do this, I think you'll be surprised at your carb intake and that stalls loss!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
