As I read this post and try to gather as much information regarding my sleeve. Pre-op, Post-op and otherwise, I hadn't read any stories on "morbidly obese" potential or current sleevers.. If your out there, I would like to hear your journey. I am 5'4" and 422 lbs scheduled for my sleeve surgery 11/5. Super excited but scared out of my wits.

Whatcha wanna know? I was 505 the morning of surgery on June 5th 2012. Today I'm 430.

Was considered high risk for surgery. But everything went just fine with no complications. Only problem I ended up with was a blood clot in my arm a week after surgery from the I.V. But they said that could have happened to anyone so take that for what ya will.

Thanks, just wanted to know if there was anything other than what has been posted to "look out" for. Most of the posts that I read they were >300 or less. And didn't know if that made a difference.

The only advice I would give is to make sure you stick to the pre op diet as best you can, especially when you're this big. It's meant to shrink your liver, which in turn makes it easy for them to move it during surgery. If they're not able to manipulate your liver laproscopically they're going to have to open you up completely. That means a big giant incision, lots of pain, and long healing time. Not to mention a big scar.

I was 401 on May 1st. 5 months later I'm 268 and falling. No problems whatsoever. Follow your surgeons preop and post op plan to the letter and you will be fine. Start exercising now. Don't wait. Start drinking Protein shakes now and learn to love them. Too many people wait till after surgery, or right before. But sometimes they can be an acquired taste and they take some getting used to. And take a real hard look at yourself. Recognize your food addictions and make a plan for dealing with them. Most of us who are that heavy have certain foods and/or situations that make us vulnerable to eat too much of the wrong things. Surgery will not stop this. Recognize those things and start making the changes to eliminate them.

Having more than 200 pounds to lose should not be a problem. Drink lots of Water, eat lots of Protein and exercise and you will be successful.

Thank you for your responses... After reading some of the other posts, I am doing my own little pre-op diet. When I last visited my dr. he didn't require only recommend I lose a couple of more pounds. So, now I am doing two Protein Shakes with Fiber :). And a sensible meal, trying my hardest to stay away from carbs and fried foods. I am back to exercising - I do a modified version of crossfit. My plan is to wean myself off of food by the week of the 21 to kick start my life.

Just about the same as Nate I guess. Started at 505 then lost 40 on preop diet and another 34 since surgery. Surgery was on 9-5 and spent 3 days in hospital. First 2 I was very sick and then have felt great ever since. Of course sore for awhile but it goes quickly. No hunger complaints but instead of that 1 big meal a day I eat 5 small ones which takes getting used to. Also, there are ways to cheat the sleeve but do not go down that road. A good example is I have a huge problem with bread so I opted to just cut it out. Not only bread but crackers and many flour products. That is just me but I just do not want to go back to old eating habits. Still on a high Protein regiment so the veggies are minimal and really do miss the fruits. Further along these will come into play more. Good luck to you.

Definitely going to make an extra effort to eat healthy and exercise pre-op thus, hoping to lose weight prior to my date - liver is on my mind. Thanks for the insight.

I find that bread is my downfall... I have cut it out for week now... It's definitely hard. I get mixed emotions - wow, I won't be able to eat this or that anymore but I snap back into reality remembering what it took to get to this point. I am taking it minute by minute. Thanks for the input - it helps.

Keya34 - when is your surgery date?

I do not have date yet but i need to meet Nut, diet and exercise person first then submit to insurance I have everything else in place. Hoping for Christmas holiday. I am a single mom of 4 kids. 12,10,4,and 4 1/2 month baby girls rest r boys. This way my 3 boys r out of school and easier for my family to help me. I have talk with my insurance they said if my bmi is over 40 and mine is over 50 so good there and a comorb. Dont have but i am pre diabetic and been under care of a doctor 9 months so in other words they told me to have office submit and it will be approved just dont know how long it takes with humana gold choice.

Its funny cause they can submit it already my insurance said the doctors requires more than they do. They just want me to pay my copay of 225 go figure

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
