I dont have to follow a pre op diet for my surgeon. Except for 24 hrs of Clear Liquids before surgery, was wondering what you guys think of me doing it anyways? If so what should I do just a basic form of a pre op diet? What does one consist of?

Hi! My Pre-op diet was fora total of6 weeks. My DOS is in 2 days- 10/11/12! The 1st 3 weeks: low/no fat dairy, veggies (no starches), fruits: apple, pear, citrus and 1/2 cup berries, lean meat, fish, poultry and egg whites (always have 1 egg w/ 2 whites- for flavor, I'll cut fat somewhere else!), 1Tbl. Reg mayo, oil or Salad Dressing, or 2 Tbl. low/no fat. No bread, potatoes, rice, flour, corn, Pasta. It was hard at first, but as your system becomes cleaner, others easier! the past 3 weeks I've been on 2 Protein Shakes and one lean and green meal (veggies and Protein only) plus 2 fruits. As of today I lost 25 lbs. (start 8/10/12 -278 lbs., today, 10/9/12 - 253 lbs.) I'm thrilled and so was my surgeon! I can't imagine not going on a Pre diet first. The operation is a lot to prepare for, mentally. Itmakes sence to start preparing for a new way if eating and a new way if life! Si excited! Can't wait! Good luck!

My preop was two weeks long. liquid Protein shakes for every meal with one snack allowed like 2 oz of turkey Jerky a day. It was torture. But it prepared me for that post op liquid then mushie stage.

Every surgeon is different as for requirements. Low fat/carbs/sugar shrinks the liver allowing your surgeon better access to your stomach. Less risks for the surgeon lacerating liver...which is good.

Wishing you the best of luck for your upcoming VSG surgery.

Next week I start my Pre-Op diet. I'm on liquids for 7 days before surgery. I've loaded up my fridge with different pre-approved protien shakes, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jell-o, and lots of new sugar free drinks (Fuze Slinderzie, SOBE Water, fruit 2O, etc...) hopefully I'll just try lots of new things for my 7 days before surgery. Your doctor may not have put you on a diet, but it certainly wouldn't HURT you if you restricted yourself. Good luck!!

Thanks everyone on your info and help! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
