Psych Eval Nerves!

Recommended Posts

Hi all :}

I have my psych Eval today--finally!! (his office has rescheduled 4x) I have NO idea what to expect from this. I guess I'm afraid he'll not like me or something I say, & shut the whole thing down. Is that possible?!??? OMIGOSH, this & the EGD are the parts of this process that are messing with me the most. Well, here goes nuthin'! :}

Don't be nervous about the psych eval! They are just trying to make sure you are of sound mind to handle the changes that are about to come your way. Mine was more of a conversation. It's ok to admit that you have a weight problem, that's why your there to fix it. Good luck to you!

Thanks! :} IDKY I'm so worried about this one! Haha I'm not sure I'm "sound" ;) but definitely not delusional or hiding some psychosis or anything. And MORE THAN READY for all the good, bad, ugly & liquidy mooshy Protein powder tainted goopiness that is to come! Haha

From what I'm reading is that we r all different (i say we as I have done such evaluations before). The answer to your question is yes they can certainly put a hold on the procedure but that is usually because of what you described- severe mental health issues. Be yourself- talk about your struggles- your support system for pre and Post surgery and just be honest. There's a reason for these Evals. Some do testing which don't lie on because it can tell If you are lying. Some (like previous poster said) are just conversations. I'm sure you will do wonderful. Good luck!

Don't get nervous. In my psych eval, the doctor talked about himself 90% of the time! Mostly they want to know if you are capable of understanding what the surgery is going to do to you and if you're sane enough to be able to follow the pre- and post-op instructions.

Thanks ladies! :} I just got home & he said that he doesn't see any reason to not give his blessing for the go-ahead. I have such an intense feeling of relief!! Haha I actually had to stop by work to drop off keys & I finally told them what the big secret's been all about. They basically said "we had a hunch...you're a terrible poker face!" lol Omigosh I feel like it's going to be OK finally. :}

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

      Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
