April 2006 Bandits October Challenge

Recommended Posts

Oh Kat, I'm so thankful that your husband is home with you and is doing better. That is just wonderful. I'm also thankful you're using your treadmill at home and are on track with the challenge. You rock!

Betty, I am thinking positive thoughts for your son's surgery. He's going to sail through and will feel so much better once he's recovered. I have a close guy friend who had a valve replacement at 25 and they told him it would only last about 15 years, but that they would replace it again when he needed it. Heart surgery is never routine but it sounds like your son is getting the best of care and we're all thinking about you and praying for you.

I have been a SLACKER. After an excellent first week of October, I took most of last week off both from diet and exercise. The scale hasn't punished me too hard (thank you scale-gods) and I am back on track today. I've got to push hard to get to my holiday goal and I've found my motivation again, at least for today!

Wow, Betty! 50 pounds!!!! That is so cool!

Isn't it fun to start getting compliments? It has taken losing 35 pounds (and the running) for my friends and co-workers to really start noticing. The positive feedback feels great, but the 35 left on me are very stubborn!

Betty, glad to hear that your son has such a positive mate. That helps so much when illness hits the family. He has age in his corner, and we are all praying for your family. It's good to see you keeping up with the challenge..and may I say congratulations on the 50 lb weight loss!!

Kat, glad to hear hubby is holding his own. I hope everyday he gets a little stronger. A walk in the leaves sounds very appealing about now.....minus the rain! I'm a wimp ab out rain too.

This is not turning out to be a productive month exercise wise for me either. However, I would never have done what I did without this challenge. 35 min at Curves today.

OK gang, we can't give up yet! We still have FIFTEEN exercise days in October. Plenty of time to meet the challenge, even if we've only exercised a couple of times this month!

I just got some interesting news from my Dad, the plastic surgeon. He says he'll do a Tummy Tuck on me at 180 lbs. I'm changing jobs May 1st, which means if I can get to 180 in April, I can actually get the 3 weeks off for recovery that I need. So I'm going to BUST A MOVE on this exercise challenge. I want to be DONE with this phase! Come on 180!

I signed up for 3 X week training sessions at the gym and at 230 I'm going to start running. WOOOHOO, let's go!

Betty, congratulations on your 50-lb loss. Love those big round numbers!

Eficka, sorry to hear you've been hit by a flu bug. Hope your recovery is speedy so that you'll feel like finishing the October Challenge. You're doing so well!

Roberta, I KNOW you can complete the Challenge! There are still plenty of days left, and Curves makes it possible! (Remember, I didn't even start last month's challenge until 9/11)

Julie, very exciting that your father can do your tummy tuck! What a lucky girl you are to have a plastic surgeon in the family! I see that you're just one pound away from the magical 100 lb number! You've had an unbelievable weight loss, and I'm interested to see what you'll post as the new goal in your signature. 180??

Bluehill and Juile: You are absolutely right!! This is no time to poop out now! I went to Curves this morning (40 mins) then straight to running errands from there. 11:55am to 5 pm... Whew!!!! Do I get any credit for that? LOL

Ladies, I had another episode of food getting stuck and a PB,...went and got a small unfill today. I'm hoping it does the trick.

I am in awe, ladies. Thank you all for motivating me!!!!

This is hard to confess...I actually ran 4 1/2 miles tonight! And half of it was uphill. The last two miles were easy (downhill) and felt fantastic. I am in shock. I did not know my body could ever do that again. I'm not sharing this to boast, but to prove that our bodies can do miraculous things.

My deepest appreciation for getting me out of a slump and off of the couch!

Do you think there is any danger in running? (like jarring the band or port loose?)

omigod, Boo, running 4.5 miles is AWESOME! Wow, I am sooooo impressed! You have truly demonstrated that regular exercise makes possible a miraculous change in the health and fitness of our bodies!

OMG.... Boo, that is outstanding!! Never hold back from sharing these milestones with us. It is so encouraging and motivating to think that one day I'll be able to do things with my body I never thought I'd be able to do again. Hmmm.....that didn't sound right! But anyway you know what I mean :-)

My DH had a Colonoscopy this morning and they found another polyp. The surgeon doesn't think it's Cancer but he had to go deep to get it out. They are concern about bleeding so he has to be careful, and is on a liquid/soft diet until Sunday evening. I need to stay with him today just in case he has a problem, so no Curves today.

Roberta, hope DH feels better soon. I know the colonoscopy thing is not too far away for me, and I am not looking forward to it at all!!! I keep hoping they will come out with a new less invasive way of doing them, or eliminate the pre test clean out before my time comes!!! My BIL had one done not too long ago, and it took my SIL a month but finally found someone with some photo-shop experience, and she took the picture they gave him of his insides, and had a picture of him ( head shot) imposed into the picture and tole him "see I told you where your head was!". It was such a fitting thing to do to him, he is always slamming everyone!!!

My DH is doing really well, has aches and pains that no one can explain, but all in all is feeling pretty good. He saw his cardiac surgeon and he released him, now we just have to see the GI Dr. and the PCP, and he is wanting to go back to work Monday. But he will be in the office, and on the computer, so it won't be physical. Trying to keep him slowed down is all but impossible. Read on......

I have had a new type of exercise the last 2 days....it has begun freezing here, in fact spit a bit of snow yesterday. So I have been chopping wood. We hauled it in, and will use a hydrolic log splitter on the big stuff, but we needed kindling to build a fire with, and DH picked up the Ax...I don't think so I told him, so that left me! I can now swing an ax, a full roundhouse swing!!! And use a wedge and sledge hammer the same way! I am slow...and don't always hit it exact...but I can do it! And I have some muscles in the upper arms and high back area, I never even knew existed!! I am sore! Also hit Curves yesterday, and we continue our shorter walks. Running is something I know I am not ready for...I have never been a runner. Right now unless I found a really good bra, or got fancy with the duct tape, I'd knock myself out if I tried to run!!! Occasionally will turn the treadmill up to a slow jog...maybe something to work towards. Will ask my Dr. how hard that would be on my repaired knees. Way to go Boo!!

Ok, I am going to go see what all is happening on the boards....you guys are all doing so great! Eficka hope you are feeling better. Julie, does Dad wanna do a group TT???!!!! There is definitely one in my future...But my Dad is an electrician, and retired, so don't think I'll have him rewire me!!! Prayers still coming your way Betty! Have a good day everyone!!!

Kat

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
