SEVERE Port-Site Pain

Recommended Posts

I was banded in May. I have had one fill in July. I'm doing great (33 lbs gone so far!), but I am experiencing SEVERE port-site pain. The pain is so great that I am unable to take full breaths. It is a very bad "bruise" type pain. I'm not sure what is causing it, but it does get worse around the time of my period (from cramping I think). When I am sitting it doesn't seem to be as bad, but when I try to stand the pain can be so severe that I am unable to stand up straight.

Any suggestions?

Hi Deezer,

I know I'm new to this site, but only yesterday had my first consultation with a lap band surgeon. He did mention that if the port isn't sterilised properly by radiologist it can cause an infection in the port area, he stressed this very rarely occurs, but if there is any pain, you must go and see a Dr straight away, as you are likely to need antibiotics.

Hope this helps and that you get sorted soon

kind regards

Suzanne

If your port area is red and swollen you definately need to call your doctor! I'm sorry I don't want to scare you but you really should call your doctor now. Even if you are not swollen or red it sounds like to me your body is telling you something

It seems to me that a port infection or possible infection are nothing to play with. Please see your Dr. ASAP. This may head off a lot of trouble in the future.

Good Luck

I was banded the same time as you were and even with a flipped port I have no pain, they did tell me however that ur port is stitched to your stomach muscles maybe its possible something popped insided there. I would go get checked out because I am not sure you should still have so much pain so far out.

hi...i was banded in nov 06...in march of 08 my dr said that he could not access my port and somehow it flipped...i occasionally did feel pain in my port but i didn't think that it had flipped so i had surgery to reposition it and the surgery was a piece of cake and that was in april....now i am experiencing pain in the port site when i walk for a long period so i am worried that mine has flipped yet again....i would go to the dr if it is constant pain.....

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
